Sharon Carter, formerly Agent 13 and now known in secret as the Power Broker, is a supporting character in the 2014 film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and its 2016 sequel, Captain America: Civil War and the overarching antagonist of the 2021 Disney+ exclusive miniseries, Falcon & The Winter Soldier.
She is the niece of the late SHIELD founder, Margaret "Peggy" Carter, and was originally a SHIELD agent and CIA operative. However, she becomes an international fugitive by helping Steve Rogers, who was considered a criminal, in stopping Baron Zemo. Due to this, she was forced on the run until she wiped herself off the grid and took sanctuary in Madripoor, swiftly taking control over the entire city and becoming the new secretive ruler, the Power Broker, while having back up operations selling stolen artwork in the black market. Hiring Dr. Willem Nagel to replicate the Power Broker, she was ultimately responsible for the rise of the Flag Smashers when the employees of her that took the Serum betrayed her, to which in order to gain the serum once more and tie up loose ends, allies with Sam Wilson, who became the new Captain America, while manipulating him to give her a pardon.
She was portrayed by Emily VanCamp.
What Makes Her Magnificent?[]
- She has a legitimately tragic and understandable reason for becoming a villain. She sacrificed her position and became an international fugitive to help Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson to get their equipment back, who were considered criminals, so they could save Bucky, and recieved no assistance and was abandoned by her allies to fend for herself when on the run, unable to see her family again, while growing a huge, yet understandable, disdain on the US government, with all her actions are done to ensure the US Government cripples and falls.
- She wipes herself off the grid and even fakes her death in the Snap to keep herself a secret as she flees to Madripoor for sanctuary.
- With the sheer power of her mind, she took control over the entire city and became its secretive ruler, the Power Broker, having placed the entire city in eternal surveillance and has the entire city monitored and under her control.
- By orchestrating the assassination of Selby, who is definitely deserved her death considering the implications of her being a dirty old woman would use Bucky as a sex slave, she frames Sam, Zemo and Bucky for her death to ensure a hgue fight and save them to ensure her trust and start manipulating them.
- Breaks Georges Batroc out of prison to plant him as the mole in the Flag Smashers during their attack on the Global Reparation Council meeting in New York and foil it.
- Keeps her identity as the Power Broker a secret from nearly everyone except her employees, masterfully tying all loose ends by killing off Karli and Batroc to ensure none of the heroes know of her status as the Power Broker, which by the end of the show, succeeds.
- Uses her alliance with Sam as the perfect opportunity to manipulate him into giving her an official pardon and gain her old job as a government agent back, using this as the perfect opportunity to gain access to government technology and information and sell them off in the Black market for profit.
- The closest anyone has gotten close to putting a dent in her plans is Baron Zemo, having orchestrated the destruction of all the Super Soldiers and the serum, but even he of all people couldn't stop her as she effortlessly bypasses it by using her new government post to sell of property and be an even richer crime lord, having become a full on Karma Houdini and gotten away with her crimes.
What Makes Her a Baddie?[]
- Is ultimately Judge, Jury and Executioner over Madripoor, ruling it with an iron fist and placing it under eternal surveillance and killing off people in case they break rules or try exposing her.
- Has Dr. Nagel administer the Super Soldier serum through human experimentations to replicate it, which lead to the rise of the Flag-Smashers and hundreds of deaths from their attacks.
- Ultimately kills Karli in cold-blood in order to tie up all loose ends.
- Wants to collapse the entire US Government, either through a Super Soldier army or by selling off government information and technology in the Black Market.
