As it is written.
~ Veranke's catchphrase, referencing the Skrulls' prophecy of taking over Earth.
You are a dangerous man, Anthony. Of all the humans, you were the one that could have found a way to see us for what we were. You were their leader. We have no wish for you to suffer. But these things, they are as it is written. It won't be long now.
~ Veranke to Iron Man after stunning him with a virus in his armor.

Queen Veranke is the main antagonist in the first half of Season 2 of The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. She is the leader of shapeshifting aliens known as the Skrulls, secretly invading the Earth by kidnapping and impersonating countless people.

She was voiced by E.G. Daily.

What Makes Her Magnificent?[]

  • For starters, she's a tragic extremist who wants to give her fellow Skrulls a new planet to live on after their old one was consumed by Galactus.
  • She and the Skrulls spent over a year infiltrating key strategic points on Earth, placing moles in numerous organizations like the Avengers, HYDRA, the Fantastic Four, the Secret Warriors, S.H.I.E.L.D., S.W.O.R.D., A.I.M., and even the Serpent Society.
  • While disguised as Mockingbird, Veranke tricks Nick Fury and Iron Man into believing that Hawkeye—not Captain America—was secretly a Skrull. As a result, Veranke came dangerously close to completely disbanding the Avengers, a feat no other villain on the show has been so successful with. Only Hawkeye, Hulk, Wasp and Ms. Marvel stay on the team, and Captain America's Skrull imposter becomes their new leader.
    • Afterwards, the fake Captain America surrenders Hulk to the military after Red Hulk framed him for attacking the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, leaving the Avengers down to just three human members who are easily defeated by Super-Skrulls (at least until the real Cap breaks out of prison).
  • Even after being exposed as a Skrull, she briefly manages to gain the upper hand on Iron Man and the Secret Warriors with only a stun blaster, even having a virus planted inside the former's armor.
  • She successfully frames Captain America as a quisling for the Skrulls, having his imposter broadcast himself telling humanity to "embrace change". It takes the whole next episode for the real Cap to even clear his name.
  • While she has somewhat of a breakdown upon being defeated, it's so incredibly minor that it doesn't detract from her magnificence.

What Makes Her a Baddie?[]

  • She wants to enslave the human race, killing any and all dissidents. She even resorts to full-scale genocide for Plan B when the Avengers have her cornered at Washington, D.C.
