NOTE: Only the Ratbat that appears in the US run of Marvel comic continuity of the Generation One series is voted up as a Magnificent Baddie, thus only information the US run of the comics should be added.

Ratbat is a major antagonist in Marvel Comics' The Transformers series, the first ever media of the Transformers franchise. Once a fuel auditor for the Decepticons, Ratbat rose through the ranks to be the Deceptcon commander taking charge on Cybertron after Lord Straxus' death, becoming one of the most energy efficient leaders in the process.

What Makes Him Magnificent?[]

  • Unlike Megatron, Ratbat is someone who focuses on economical feasibility and energy efficiency, always plotting for more energy efficient ways and make up for fuel loss under Megatron's careless leadership.
  • Is always willing to compromise with his enemies be it Autobot or Decepticon rivals, such as with Shockwave, Scorponok or Optimus Prime, if it is logical and fuel efficient.
  • Compared to other Decepticon leaders, like Straxus, Megatron, or even Shockwave, he is far from as noteworthily cruel, in which the only one even less cruel is Scorponok. The nastiest moment he has is threatening to wipe out all life on Earth as a desperate last measure to curb a Scraplet plague if the Autobot trio he dispatched fail to quell it in 10 hours.
  • Takes control over millionaire industrialist, G.B. Blackrock, to use his charisma into luring dozens of unsuspecting customers to a line of carwashes he mass produced to hypnotize them and siphon up fuel.
  • When the Intelligence and Information Institute capture the Autobot faction, the Throttlebots and execute them, he goes to check if they actually were killed, which he was right to act on such suspicion as their brain modules were removed by Walter Barnett who wanted to help them escape.
  • Tracks down Walter and the Autobots' main ally, Buster Witwicky, down to a shopping mall, disguising himself as a cassette tape for the stereo of their truck to ambush the latter at the abandoned Ark to take him a hostage to keep the military away from all Decepticon operations.
  • Taking advantage of the Autobots' splintered state, Ratbat launches a near successful stealth attack to wipe them out and reclaim their deactivated comrades as well, succeeding in stranding them on the Moon at the least.
  • Sets up a spa resort to cover his operations to uncover a series of Autobot Mini-Cassettes that inform about the Underbase.
  • Upon figuring out Starscream's gambit to have the Decepticons be split and pitted agaisnt each other and then the Autobots, Ratbat is one of the first to call for a ceasefire, first with Scorponok, then with Optimus Prime, to coordinate an offensive against his treacherous right-hand.

What Makes Him a Baddie?[]

  • Threatens to wipe out all life on Earth if the Autobot rebels he made a deal with fail to curb a Scraplet infestation within 10 hours.
  • Has dozens of humans brainwashed to siphon up fuel and attempts to make the brainwashing permanent.
  • Attempts to destroy the Autobots multiple times.
  • Takes the teenage Buster Witwicky hostage and attempts to kill him when he no longer has any user for him.
