Rattlesnake Jake is the secondary antagonist of Nickelodeon's 23rd feature film Rango.
As his name implies, he is a dangerous Western diamondback rattlesnake who never leaves the town of Dirt without taking a single soul.
He was voiced by Bill Nighy.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- Has a great performance by Bill Nighy being liked by fans and critics.
- He uses reverse psychology to expose Rango as a phony hero, running him out of town afterward.
- Saw through Rango's water trap at the last second just by listening to a vague hint given by him, only not being able to escape in time due to the water coming too fast.
- During his duel with Rango, Jake heard Deputy Teddy Grank cock his rifle from a very long distance and, without even seeing him, spun around just in time to shoot Teddy, who was aiming to take him out from behind. Jake's instincts were sharp, and his quick reflexes allowed him to neutralize the sniper before he could fire.
- When Rango returns to town and uses a "hawk" to scare him, Jake quickly sees that it's just a bunch of bats after looking in a mirror and then opens fire on them.
- He tips his hat to Rango after he saves him from getting shot by the mayor, as well as Beans and himself from drowning, using just one bullet.
- He exits the film entirely by dragging Mayor Tortoise John to his presumed death for betraying and trying to murder him a minute earlier, even echoing his line about everybody forgetting him.
- Has a sense of honor, respecting Rango for actually using one bullet.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
- He is implied to have killed many people in Dirt on the mayor's orders and comes very close to killing Beans for not agreeing to donate her father's land. The novelization also confirms that he has killed many sheriffs under the orders of the Mayor much to Rango's horror.
- Takes sadistic joy in what he does and never goes back on his word to kill at least one citizen before leaving the town of Dirt, examples include nearly squeezing Beans to death, threatening to kill Rango when he returns, and shooting at the moles riding the bats.
