Rowena Macleod is a major character in the TV series Supernatural.
She is an ancient Witch and the mother of Crowley, with her magic being so powerful she eventually proves to be the most powerful Witch in the world. She is an occasional ally of the Winchester brothers, eventually joining their side fully in protecting the universe.
She was portrayed by Ruth Connell.
What Makes Her Magnificent?[]
- She is easily the most powerful Witch in the world, despite having a magic binding placed onto her by other Witches, she manages to perform incredibly powerful magic, especially after acquiring the Book of the Damned:
- She is capable of a spell which can obliterate the human body entirely.
- She can kill demons using magic without much effort, and can immobilize more powerful demons such as her son Crowley.
- She can perform a spell which causes someone to viciously attack those around them, and this can even work on weakened angels.
- She is capable of performing spells out of the Book of the Damned once it has been decoded, including the removal spell for the Mark of Cain, the first and most powerful curse.
- She could create a powerful charm which she would sew into her body that would revive her upon death, which saved her life at least twice, and she was also able to do this in others, as she sewed it into Arthur Ketch as well.
- She is capable of performing a spell which can access Lucifer's Cage, the most inaccessible part of Hell which can contain the Archangel Lucifer.
- Her magic lightning when combined with the power of other Witches can directly harm the Darkness, the most powerful being in existence,
- While unable to permanently harm him, she can temporarily weaken Lucifer and send him back to the cage if he is expelled from his vessel.
- While it took considerable effort, she was able to create a bomb imbued with hundreds of thousands of souls capable of killing the Darkness.
- She created a spell which could turn a ghost back into a human being, fully reviving the dead, although it could only work once.
- She manipulates Crowley throughout season 10 while acting as his advisor, and after being thrown out by him she begins plotting to have him killed, requesting Sam Winchester do it in exchange for her removing the Mark of Cain from Dean.
- Upon being imprisoned to remove the Mark of Cain, she manages to escape after performing the spell and steals the Book of the Damned in the process.
- She orchestrates the release of Lucifer by having him project his essence so he can speak to Sam, as they need his help in fighting the Darkness, which allows him to enter Castiel's vessel and escape.
- She helps God and the Winchesters in fighting the Darkness, and later constructs the bomb that can theoretically kill her.
- Feeling regret for having released Lucifer, she helps the Winchesters send him back to the cage after they exorcise him from his vessel using a Hyperbolic Pulse Generator.
- She becomes an ally of the Winchesters and redeems herself by joining them in saving their mother Mary and son Jack from an alternate apocalyptic universe they are trapped in.
- Her final act is to save the world from an apocalypse caused by God, who release countless spirts from Hell onto the world. She fixes this by drawing all of the spirits to herself using her magic and then jumping into Hell directly.
- Following her death, she takes over as Queen of Hell and begins to reform it by putting an end to Crossroad Demon deals, under the belief that people should go where they belong and thus innocent people shouldn't be tricked into selling their souls.
What Makes Her a Baddie?[]
- She was neglectful to her son Fergus when they were both alive, eventually abandoning him altogether.
- She acted as a malevolent witch for several centuries, to the point of being expelled from the Grand Coven entirely.
- Upon being captured by Crowley's demons, she begins manipulating him as an advisor in order to make him more ruthless, in contrast to his plans at the time which involved making Hell a better place, to the point that he eventually has to expel her as well.
- By communicating with Lucifer in her dreams, she plans to help free him from his cage by projecting his essence into another area of Hell and having him go into another vessel.
- After being betrayed by Lucifer, she temporarily joins forces with the Darkness and her omnicidal quest in order to get revenge.
- She kills reapers in an effort to draw out Death and bring her son Crowley back.
