~ Evelyn revealing that she is the real Screenslaver. |
Evelyn Deavor, also known as her supervillain name the Screenslaver, is the main antagonist of Pixar's 20th feature-length animated film, Incredibles 2, the sequel to its 6th feature length animated film, The Incredibles.
She is the sister of Winston Deavor, the former co-CEO of DevTech, and Elastigirl's former friend-turned-arch-nemesis, who devotes her villainy into shattering supers reputation to prevent any chances of them ever being legalized.
Evelyn was voiced by Catherine Keener, while her Screenslaver puppet was voiced by Bill Wise.
What Makes Her Magnificent?[]
- Unlike Syndrome, Evelyn has a much more reasonable excuse for her actions, even if they don't justify her actions. Her father was a major admirer of superheroes, who let his faith in them cloud his rationality during an armed robbery, instead of going to the safe room like her mother begged him to do, he went to call Fironic and Gazerbeam despite superheroes being illegal now, which resulted in him in getting shot, which was why she hates supers.
- While she is motivated more by her being unfair to superheroes and wrongfully blaming them for her parents' death, she does bring up a good point on how people depend too much on supers instead of trying to defend themselves, having some legitimate reason to hate supers. She even admits to Elastigirl that they both could've been friends had it not been for their clashing ideologies, canceling the chances of her being a xenophobe also.
- In addition, she was technically another victim of Syndrome's, as his destructive desire to become a superhero himself since his youth was indirectly a catalyst to her tragic descent into villainy via the enactment of the Super Relocation Act, which cost her parents' lives.
- Despite having drastically different endgames, Evelyn seamlessly incorporates her plan to her brother's, assisting his plan by choosing Elastigirl as she causes the least amount of damage and bringing superheroes' reputation to a high point so she can tear it down.
- Is an exceptional inventor, using her resources to create exceptional hypnosis technology to use to her advantage.
- Using her technology, she has a pizza guy brainwashed into becoming her pawn to ensure Evelyn doesn't get caught, selecting him not due to having the right build and strength to enact her plan on a future confrontation with Elastigirl so he can be easily defeated.
- She pulls off a facade that fools everyone, even faking a good bond with Elastigirl and even helping her take down her figurehead to further her goals.
- She compliments Elastigirl in deducing that the Pizza man is innocent and then brainwashes her to her control to lure Bob into a trap that works perfectly with Bob also under her control.
- Using both the superheroes, she brings all the supers that came to DevTech, as well as Frozone, under her control.
- While Evelyn starts losing a bit of composure when the supers are starting to be freed from her control, she anyway regains it and continues her plan with complete casual confidence.
- She has the still-brainwashed Krushauer crush the pipes leading to the entrance to the engine room, blocking it and preventing the heroes from foiling her plan.
- While she is willing to sacrifice hundreds, if not thousands, of lives for her plans to work, she is unwilling to allow her brother to die also, taking him with her to their private jet to escape, meaning she still cares for her brother.
- Uses her environment to her advantage, depressurizing the cabin of the jet (while putting on her oxygen mask) to kill Elastigirl via asphyxiation
- While she is ungrateful that Elastigirl saves her, Evelyn doesn't say "Just because you saved me doesn't make you right." with petty undertones to it, saying it in a completely casual tone and says that her mind hasn't changed about supers in a respectful tone, as she still believes that just because the supers saved some people doesn't mean they are good for society as a whole. She also doesn't resist when the policemen put her in the car.
What Makes Her a Baddie?[]
- Attempting to crash a high-speed train filled with hundreds of passengers by hypnotizing its drivers and reversing it to cause it to derail, attempting to kill them all.
- Sent an innocent pizza guy to jail.
- Attempted to crash the helicopter an ambassador was in as an assassination attempt.
- Attempted to crash the boat filled with world leaders against the city, which would kill hundreds, if not thousands of people.
