~ Shadow Moon upon his Redemption and Second death. |
Shadow Moon is one of the main antagonists in Kamen Rider Black and Kamen Rider Black RX. Being originally Kotaro's foster brother, He would be brainwashed by Gorgom and later turn into their messiah, Later on, He would eventually be revived in the next series by working this time as a lone-wolf and an Anti-Villain.
He is voiced by Masaki Terasoma and portrayed by Takahito Horiuchi as Nobuhiko.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- Despite being brainwashed by Gorgom, It is worth nothing that Shadow Moon still manages to constantly improve himself Without help and even manages to succeed in some (if not all) the goals he wants, and even go as far as to disobeying the Creation King's orders, with him not getting any sense of punishment and getting away with what he wants, Showing that even while brainwashed, Shadow Moon always ends up completing multiple of his goals in the course of the series and after Black RX, he ends up getting rid of being a simple 'Pawn' of the Creation King, Being now free to do what he wants.
- In his first appearance, he managed to easily outskill Birugenia despite the experience gap, being declared as the new century king and the leader of gorgom.
- Shortly after this, In Episode 37 to 38, he creates his personal handmaiden mutants who work as his henchwomen, and due to Shadow Moon's elegance and strong aura, They end up quickly getting attracted and interested on him, something that would also led to them swearing loyalty to him not mattering what.
- In Episode 38, He makes a brilliant plan in which he transforms multiple mutants into regular looking humans, guiding them into creating the EP-Party Boy Squad, a team and 'organization' that end up brainwashing countless of children and adults into believing in their lies and rules, With Shadow Moon later making them submit to Gorgom and joining the group. Meanwhile this plan happened, Shadow Moon also end up making a great part of the city believe that Black was the true enemy, Saying that he at the end of the day was just a guy trying to play 'hero' for his own personal amusement and to gain popularity, If this wasn't already enough to damage Black's reputation, One of his minions deceives some random civilians into thinking that Black attacked multiple innocent people, Which make them hate him even more, Something that make both of Shadow Moon's plans succeed for a long time.
- When he gets to finally fight Black personally, He ends up outclassing and outsmarting him in battle, Leaving him very wounded and in critical condition. Later on, he kidnapped both Kasumi and Kyoko, using them as pawns to distract Kotaro.
- Despite having them as Pawns, Shadow Moon didn't drive himself into killing or even hurting them, Specially with Kasumi, Since she used to be his girlfriend when he was Nobuhiko, And this small reminder make him choose to leave her alone, And when Empress Bishum tries to attack Kasumi, He stops her with ease and backs her down.
- Leads tons of minions and monsters in his fights, That he used as a resource to get close to Kotaro and his allies without having to necessarily fight him himself.
- Unlike the Creation King and other Generals of Gorgom, Shadow Moon's true and personal goal is to defeat/kill Kamen Rider Black by himself to prove that he is superior than him, Almost viewing it like a competition.
- When Black is almost killed by a random monster from Gorgom, Shadow Moon stops this from happening and kills the monster, Saying that only he can kill Black, claiming his soul as his. And even though he had Black at his mercy, He still decided to not take his kingstone away, Much to the Creation King's disagreement, Who despite trying to convince Shadow Moon, he didn't make him change his opinion, Showing that he still has high sense of honor and wants to get rid of Black properly.
- In their final battles, Shadow Moon manipulates and outwits Kotaro, mentally and physically scarring him for life, while also using him as a Pawn like nothing.
- Eventually, Shadow Moon manages to succeed in killing Black by making the Creation King transform him into Nobuhiko, Making Kotaro believe that he turned back to normal, Just to end up reverting into his normal form, Injuring Black. Later, after an exchange of Kicks and Punches, Shadow Moon is the last one standing, and later slashed and stabs Kotaro to death with his Saber, while respecting him for being a worthy opponent
- In episodes 49-50, Kotaro is revived and empowered, Which makes them both fight one more time, And if it wasn't for Battle Hopper's sacrifice to briefly stop Shadow Moon from continuing attacking, He would have killed Black again.
- In Episode 51, A damaged Shadow Moon finds Kotaro, Who sneaked into the gorgom base thanks to Battle Hopper's radar, When he sees him, He challenges him once more to a last fight, Not caring if he dies, Since he just wants to know Kotaro's full strength.
- After being almost killed, He tricks Kotaro into giving him the Satan Saber, making him think that "He is too scared to fight the demons in hell without his weapon" and ends up sympathizing with Kotaro for a moment, Before pointing his saber on his face, And although he could have finish him off, Shadow Moon decides to not do it, and slowly lowers his Saber (Although this also happened due to him being injured too).
- When he learns that the Creation King tried to steal his body and that he shows little to no care for him and the other remaining mutants, Shadow Moon finally has enough of him and decides to hand Kotaro the Satan Saber, which the latter uses to stab and pierce The Creation King, killing him in the process, with Kotaro later saying that if it wasn't for Shadow Moon's help, He wouldn't be able to defeat the Creation King.
- In Black RX, Shadow Moon returns to life, with him now being free from Gorgom and the Creation King, Although Shadow Moon still remained as the dominant personality with small memories of Nobuhiko's past adventures with Kotaro and his family.
- He manages to track Black RX by manipulating Joe The Haze, with the latter being eventually possesed by Shadow Moon, after this, He makes everyone including Kotaro think that he is in fact the true Joe, Waiting for the opportunity to attack Kotaro, which he eventually does.
- Successfully sabotaged some (if not all) the plans that the crisis empire made to get rid of Black RX, going as far as to invading and tracking their base and killing some of their minions to show them that he isn't joking around when he says that only him has the right to take Kotaro's life, Which makes him briefly allied with Black RX into fighting the empire (This while he plans to kill Kotaro when he least expects it)
- When the Crisis Empire plans to get rid off Black RX and Shadow Moon, The latter manages to completely deduce their plan, And despite having the chance to avoid it, He proudly decides not to do it, Since he wants to die alongside his archenemy in a 'Memorable Place' and with that, He intentionally decides to follow the plan, Which leds to both being trapped in hellfire
- After being defeated by Black RX due to him getting damaged in his Shadowcharger, Shadow Moon accepts defeat and congratulates Kotaro for winning, And he decides to finally regain some consciousness by telling Kotaro the plan of Crisis, Which consists in making the volcano explode, so Black can get trapped in lava alongside the whole place, After this he also promises Kotaro that he will save some children that were kidnapped and tied (While also telling him that when he gets revived, they will be destined to fight again).
- Later, when Kotaro manages to stop the volcano, It is revealed that Shadow Moon did infact fullfit his promise, and in his last remaining moments he rescued the kids and hang them over to the farm where their dad lives in, Sadly passing away.
- Because of this, Kotaro gets surprised and honored by what Shadow Moon did and it is implied that this was also due to the influence his previous memories as Nobuhiko had in him, Which make him redeem himself at the end of the day.
What Makes Him A Baddie?[]
- He killed Birugenia and some of his minions just to get them out of his way (And also to prevent them from killing Black)
- Brainwashed multiple civilians into believing in Gorgom's ideals and later on, He indirectly damaged their towns by collateral damage in his fight with Black
- Tries to conquer or consume earth with his monsters just to alert Black and tricking him into fighting him
- Psychologically tortured and manipulated Kotaro into the point of leaving him almost broken
- While he did not hurt Kasumi and Kyoko, He still kidnapped and used them as Pawns to lure and distract Kotaro.
- Makes constant destructive and terroristic acts via his minions, which could have ended into them indirectly murdering innocent people.
- At first, he did not care about the safety of some children that were trapped in the hellfire, Although he eventually decides to help them escape thanks to Kotaro.
