Shintaro Kazama is a major character in the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series. He was the patriach of the Kazama family, the former captain of the Dojima Family, and he also ran the Sunflower Orphanage, a building that holds orphans whose parents were murdered by Kazama, including series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu, Akira Nishikiyama and Yumi Sawamura.

What Makes Him Magnificent?[]

  • In Yakuza 0, when he is imprisoned, he conspires a plan to make sure his corrupt and vile boss Sohei Dojima doesn't get the Empty Lot, a small piece of land in Kamurocho worth 1 billion yen which is owned by a blind woman called Makoto Makimura
  • He gets an ally of his, Tetsu Tachibana, to employ Kazuma Kiryu into his work, which makes Kiryu unknowingly play a part in taking down the Dojima family
  • His plan eventually succeeds when Masaru Sera becomes the owner of the Empty Lot due to Kazama's plan and Sera conspiring with Goro Majima.
  • Before the events of the original Yakuza, he notices a corrupt politician named Kyohei Jingu, who is also the political ally of Masaru Sera, is using the Tojo Clan for money laundering and plans to outright destroy the clan. Sera decides to betray Jingu and help Kazama and Yumi steal 10 billion yen, which sets up the events of the first game.
  • Kazama gets an ally of his, Yukio Terada, to tell Kazama's fallen adoptive son Akira Nishikiyama about Jingu and his 10 billion yen.
  • At the start of the first game, Kazama pulls strings to free Kiryu from prison after he took Nishikiyama's place as the person who murdered Dojima.
  • His plan to expose Jingu eventually works out, as he is eventually defeated thanks to Kiryu and Nishiki, the latter of whom redeemed himself in Kiryu's darkest hour to save his sworn brother and Haruka, the daughter of Yumi, the woman he loved.

What makes him a Baddie?[]

  • He played a part in the Jingweon Massacre lead by Sohei Dojima.

  • He reveals to Kiryu that he killed his biological parents, as well as the biological parents of anyone who lived at the Sunflower Orphanage.
