Soundwave: Congratulations, Shockwave... or should I say Commander Shockwave. You did it-- you destroyed Megatron!

Shockwave: Correction Soundwave. Although everything had went precisely as I planned, I did not destroy Megatron -- a memory did.

~ Shockwave upon dethroning Megatron as leader of the Decepticons once more

Shockwave is one of the main antagonists of Marvel Comics' The Transformers series, the first ever media of the Transformers franchise. He is a high-ranking Decepticon commander absolutely devoted towards logic that will take whatever pragmatic measure he can to further the Decepticon cause, being one of the most competent and dangerous Decepticons to ever live as a result, frequently usurping Megatron's command if logic dictates he should rule.

What Makes Him Magnificent?[]

  • While not loyal to any individual leader, Shockwave is selflessly loyal to the Decepticon cause and logic itself, in which unlike other Decepticons who only joined for satiating their lust for power and/or blood, Shockwave averts from any sort of unnecessarily cruelty as the biggest practitioner of pragmatic villainy among the entire organization, and is willing to compromise, even surrender the power that he has to other leaders like Megatron and Ratbat without the slightest bit of hesitation if it is a logical action to further the Decepticon cause or on realizing he may not be as flawless a leader as he believes himself to be.
  • For all his intelligence, Shockwave is an exceptionally dangerous foe by combining it with his combat prowess, able to take down
  • Organizes a near effective assault on the Autobots for Megatron that attacks their leader Optimus Prime and his team at their weakest and nearly assure Decepticon victory, only foiled due to the ship unexpectedly crashing down to Earth.
  • Upon the Ark crashing, Shockwave investigates and manages to track it down to Earth.
  • Frequently manages to wrestle control over the Decepticons from Megatron himself, securing his reign as the Decepticon leader for a very long time.
  • Makes his proper comic debut single-handedly incapacitating all of the Autobots through a very effective ambush on the Ark with just a single blow against them.
  • When Optimus Prime transfers the Creation Matrix to Buster Witwicky, Shockwave scans the memories of the Decepticon guarding him at that time, Ruble, to figure it out and dispatches Laserbeak to track down Buster.
  • Figures out a trap was being set up for him and the Autobots were spying on him using the telephone lines, Shockwave lures them to a trap by broadcasting a false order to dump the head of Optimus Prime on the swamp, having them plant a false one on Optimus' new body and have it nearly kill off the Autobots while his Decepticons launch an ambush.
  • Is willing to put away differences with Megatron and have a joint leadership over the Decepticons upon being contacted by Lord Straxus, who had headed the Decepticons on Cybertron, to develop a Space Bridge, and even after its failure is willing to continue, and then without hesitation, steps down as leader when Megatron points out he still allowed a trap to be sprung around him.
  • When he realizes Megatron's depression and lack of ambition upon finally getting Optimus killed made him an ineffective leader, Shockwave dispatches the Predacon team disguised as Autobots, and then the power of his own words, to trigger a memory on Megatron and manipulate him into taking himself down for him to take over.
  • Upon Megatron's death, he forms a partnership with the terrorist organization COBRA and uses them as tools to get his hands on Power Station Alpha, aware of COBRA's ulterior motive and manage to beat them at the game in taking the station for his own uses.
  • Rallies up rogue Decepticons with Starscream to organize an effective ambush against current Decepticon leader, Scorponok, as well as the Autobots, thwarted only by the arrival of the Neo-Knights.
  • Logically deciding any attempt to fight of the threat of Unicron is futile after seeing countless others die doing the same, Shockwave repairs the Ark to take advantage of Earth's currently defenseless status to take it over.

What Makes Him a Baddie?[]

  • Attempts to conquer and enslave humanity, haivng enslaved the workers of an oilfield when making it his new Decepticon base.
  • Shoots Josie Beller, causing her body to be paralyzed without the help of a wearable device.
  • Makes his debut destroying the Autbots and having their bodies hung.
  • Attempted to destroy the Earth and all life in it by harvesting the energy of its core to create a new star to replenish Cybertron.

Trivia[]

  • Shockwave is the very first Magnificent Baddie in the entire Transformers franchise.
