Simon Peter Gruber is the main antagonist of the live-action movie Die Hard With A Vengeance. He was formerly an Eastern Germany Colonel that turned to a terrorist leader and is the elder brother of Hans Gruber. He desired to kill McClane for killing Hans and wanted to rob gold worth of $140,000,000,000 from the Federal Reserve Bank.

He is portrayed by Jeremy Irons.

What Makes Him Magnificent?

• Simon is able to design several mind games to keep McClane and Zeus busy.
• He set a bomb up in the Wall Street Street Subway Station and blew it up so he can use the temporary closed tunnel as an escape route.
• He stole dump trucks as a means to transport the gold away.
• He is able to use the lack of schools around Federal Reserve Bank to his advantage and made a false alarm of having a bomb set in a school, therefore luring all cops away to investigate it while he and his minions rob the bank.
  • He later announced it to the public in order to throw the traffic into chaos, thus slowing the cops down.
  • He also states that he didn't plant a bomb in a school because he isn't a monster, showing he has standards against harming children.
• After failing to bribe McClane, he had his minion to blew up the emergency dam as an attempt to drown McClane.
• He has the gold bars transported away before giving containers filled with scrap metal to Mathias Targo who wanted to blow up the gold while Simon wanted to claim the gold for himself and his minions.
• He is willing to give McClane a bottle of Aspirin.
• While he admitted disliking his brother, he still tried to avenge him.

What Makes Him A Baddie?

• He blew up a department store and later the Wall Street Street Subway Station.
• After entering the Federal Reserve Bank, he and his men killed and/or incapacitated all of its guards.
• He betrayed and killed Targo.
• He tried to kill John McClane.
