Solf J. Kimblee is a major antagonist of the manga series Fullmetal Alchemist and its 2009 anime adaptation Brotherhood.

Kimblee is one of the state alchemists and Amestrian mlitary officer. He serves as the agent of the homunculi and helps them achieve the Father's goal. Kimblee is also a veteran of the Ishvalan War and a war criminal with a twisted morals and psychopathic tendencies. He's the arch-enemy of Scar and Alphonse Elric.

He was voiced by Hiroyuki Yoshino in Japanese and Eric Vale (who also voiced Tomura Shigaraki in My Hero Academia) in the English dubbed version.

What Makes Him Magnificent?[]

  • He has a cool character design with badass long white coats.
  • He is as stylish and charming as he is psychopathic and deranged, with an impeccable sense of fashion and charisma has.
  • He is genuinely affable and honorable, would respect people who stick to their beliefs, even if he may not agree with them.
  • He demonstrates himself to be a skilled fighter and ingenious schemer.
    • During his fight against Scar, he ascertained Scar's relative position from using his map.
    • He determined the Briggs officer's intent to betray him and escaping via explosion.
    • He tricked Edward into a situation that nearly gets him killed.
    • He manipulated Drachma's military in order to fulfill the Homunculis' plans.
  • He has a truly deranged but internally anti-nihilistic philosophy, believing it to be of the utmost priority that people are true to their values and words at all times regardless of their relative moral alignment.
    • He himself shows to follow his own philosophy to never forget the faces of those he killed.
    • When he is able to determine and remember a person he almost killed that he did not know the name of after a brief encounter with him, and he demonstrates respect to the Elric brothers for following their moral values towards him.
    • He is even willing to go against the Homunculi themselves when he realizes their entire plan is founded upon a contradictory belief, and demonstrates respect to Winry's parents.
  • When Edward was about to be absorbed by Pride after his defeat, Kimblee intervened and taunted Pride for his hypocrisy that despite lording that how humans are supposedly inferior to Homunculi, he doesn't hesitate to throw his pride away before stopping the merger and leading to Pride's decisive defeat.
  • Despite how evil he is, he isn't too vile as the narrative does not fixate on him enjoying his sadism in contrast with Father and other homunculuses, and he did not act on racism or dehumanization towards the Ishvalans and did not view them as any lesser than any other person.

What Makes Him A Baddie?[]

  • He is an unrepentant war criminal who took clear pleasure in the death and destruction he wreathed, to the point of killing his commanding officers after the war was over.
  • He is directly involved in assisting the Homonculi's scheme to sacrifice the entire nation of Amestris in order to use it as a Philosopher's Stone, despite knowing he himself would likely be killed along in the process.
  • He is reference to kill subordinates that fail to fulfill his agendas, and extends to attempting to kill the teenage protagonists.

Trivia[]

  • His 2003 counterpart doesn't count due to being far more vile and sadistic.
  • He is currently one of the two Fullmetal Alchemist characters (alongside Scar) to be approved as Magnificent Baddie.
