“ | All this time I planned on entering Hell while still vibrant and filled with energy, not as some withered desiccated corpse. I cannot tell you the ecstasy I have felt in being young again. | „ |
~ Strazio to Joseph Joestar before dying |
Strazio is major character in the 1987 manga series, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood, and a minor antagonist in it's sequel, Battle Tendency. He is a practitioner of hamon who serves as a student of Tonpetty, a master of hamon. When his fellow student - William Zeppeli - request help in fighting a powerful vampire named Dio Brando, Strazio arrives with his master and fellow student - Dire - to help Jonathon Joestar defeat Dio.
50 years later, Strazio has taken over Tonpetty as a teacher of hamon. Upon being requested for help from an old ally from the fight with Dio -Robert E.O. Speedwagon - Strazio finds that he wants him to destroy a sleeping man encased in a stone pillar to prevent him from being a threat. Strazio has different plans and betrays Speedwagon and takes one of the stone masks surrounding the pillar man. Strazio uses it to turn himself into a vampire under the goal of staying youthful forever. Strazio then plans on killing Jonathon's grandson - Joseph Joestar - before he could avenge him for Speedwagon's supposed death.
In the anime, he was voiced by Nobuo Tobita in the original version and by Dave Mallow in the English dub.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- He is an incredibly skilled fighter in the art of Hamon, and is so skilled that he was able to teach Lisa Lisa into being a highly skilled user to the point where she becomes a teacher of Hamon herself.
- Defeats a group of Dio's minions by jumping into a chandler and knocking it down on them, using the Hamon to kill them.
- Ends up succeeding Tonpetty’s as a major Hamon master and teacher.
- Gets Speedwagon to reveal information on Joseph’s hamon abilities so he could single him as a threat.
- Manages to kill off Speedwagon's research team in a blink of an eye.
- Dumps the bodies of the people he killed into a nearby river to prevent the pillar man waking up by feeding on their blood.
- Deduces that Joseph and Erina will target him after he nearly kills Speedwagon so he gets the bright idea to eliminate them first before they could become threats to his plan.
- Manages to track down Joseph's locations twice.
- When he targets Joseph, he notes that Dio getting cocky and testing his powers out on Johnathan led to the former killing him and opts to test them out after he has killed Joseph, showing that Strazio isn't a smug snake.
- Wears a scarf made of Hamon-resistant insects to protect himself from Joseph's Hamon.
- Plays dead to lure Joseph over to him, then attacks him off-guard by firing Laser beams from his eyes at him.
- Baits Joseph into attacking him by kidnapping a random woman and threatening to kill her so could properly determine whether or not he is a threat.
- Accepts his death with complete dignity by using the Hamon he stored within himself to commit suicide while stating that he has no regrets and that he always intended to go hell while still youthful rather than being old.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
- Betrays Speedwagon by killing his research team and attempting to kill the former while stealing the stone mask for himself.
- Sets out to kill Joseph and Erina Joestar to prevent them from stopping him.
- Kidnaps a woman and forces Joseph to attack him under the threat of killing her, even pulling a tooth out to bait him further.
