~ The Devourer of Gods |
The Devourer of Gods is a major antagonist in the Terraria: Calamity Mod. It is a large worm-like entity that serves under Yharim that has the ability to utilize the powers of beings it consumes.
What Makes It Magnificent?[]
- Despite its savage, beast-like nature it is extremely intelligent, even being capable of speech
- Its dialogue shows it to be a very charismatic and prideful being
- Despite its large ego, it's clear that it can easily back up its claims
- It is very intelligent and strategic given it can launch sneak attacks to claim its victims
- Although it is a servant of Yharim, the Devourer is manipulative and was able to acquire the servitude of Signus by striking a deal with him when the Devourer found that it wasn't able to kill him
- Throughout Yharim's reign, the Devourer secretly manipulated Yharim to perform actions that would directly benefit it in the long run, with Yharim only realizing he was being manipulated long after the golden age of his reign came to an end. The Devourer also had enough forsight to know that in his deal with Yharim it was inevitable one would betray the other.
- Is very competent as it is known to of killed and eaten a variety of powerful entities prior to its confrontation
- It's dialogue can be laughable at times, such as it being confused by the Terrarian getting hit by its tail.
- It is honorable as it is presumed it only used a fraction of its real power to fight the Terrarian since it knew the Terrarian wasn't a god, as well as the fact it usually upholds its end of the deals it makes and has shown a sense of respect to others on more than one occasion
- It saved the Storm Weaver, a younger member of its kind, out of genuine sympathy and saw no reason to turn against it unless it grew powerful enough to threaten the Devourer itself
- It isn't petty or xenophobic, as it fights the Terrarian because its servants were defeated. The Devourer also never commits 'For the Evulz' crimes as every time it killed it was to either sustain itself or to grow stronger
- After its defeat against the Terrarian, it uses its powers to revive itself and transform into its final form to defeat the Terrarian once more
- Throughout its battle against the Terrarian, it frequently changes its attack strategy and uses a variety of tricks and abilities to try defeat the Terrarian, signalled by it changing the colour of the sky.
- It has a very challenging boss battle with an excellent theme song to accompany it
What Makes It A Baddie?[]
- Is responsible for a currently unknown (but very high) amount of deaths
- It frequently attacks and kills gods to take their powers to become stronger
- Even though it is sentient and capable of sympathy, it doesn't feel any remorse for its crimes
- Even though it serves Yharim currently, the Devourer plans to betray him and take his power due to how power hungry it is
- It seeks to devour the Universe and rule over it as its ultimate god
Trivia[]
