~ The Grinch vowing to make a comeback.
The Grinch is the titular villain protagonist of the 1957 Dr. Seuss book How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (and its 1966 television adaptation), the main antagonist of the 1977 Halloween prequel television special Halloween is Grinch Night, and the main antagonist of the 1982 television special The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hat.
He is a cantankerous lonely green monster with a heart "two sizes too small", who loathed Christmas with a passion after having to endure it for 53 years. He also despised joy and happiness, and harbored a grudge towards the residents of Whoville for their Christmas spirit.
He was voiced by the late Boris Karloff in the original special, the late Hans Conried in Halloween is Grinch Night, and by the late Bob Holt in The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hat.
Despite his grouchiness, the Grinch is very charismatic and suave. He carries out his misdeeds with style, making him more likeable and entertaining to the audience despite his perpetual crabbiness. Also, the Grinch's more unpleasant traits, like his sadism and arrogance, are minor and overshadowed by his charm.
He successfully commanded the extremely savage and unpredictable members of the Un-Human Race unchallenged.
To say his Paraphernalia Wagon is very cool would be an understatement, and the scene where he exposes it to Eukariah Who reminded a lot of viewers of Pink Elephants on Parade due to being animated fantastically. He didn't even show him most of its contents either since he never left the roof, meaning Eukariah quite literally scratched the surface of the Grinch's awesome dimension (gotta keep that TV-Y rating after all). Plus his maniacal laugh when he swears to return someday is pretty badass too.
Even though Eukariah blatantly outwitted him, it was only because the Grinch wasn't focusing on the sour-sweet wind given that the Whos are about it as an omen which means nothing to the Grinch in hindsight.
He concocted a plan to steal all of the Whos' presents, food, and decorations, and he executes his plan flawlessly. The gadgets he uses to do so are really cute, albeit in a dark way. Making this even more impressive is how the Grinch is visibly out of shape, yet pulls off his plan with ease without even training.
When Cindy Lou-Who sees the Grinch stealing her family's Christmas tree, the Grinch thinks on his feet and hastily fabricates an excuse that he is not stealing but fixing her Christmas tree. He's also kind enough to get her the drink she got up for in the first place.
He victimizes the Cat in the Hat and other innocents in unique manners, by using his own inventions (like the Vacusound Sweeper and the Darkhouse) against them.
He stands out as the most intelligent and charming character, with no other characters rivalling his magnificence.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
When the Sweet-Sour Wind came, he plotted to use his Paraphernalia Wagon to terrorize Whoville. The Whos' knowledge of the Sweet-Sour Wind being an omen implies that the Grinch had terrorized Whoville in the past.
He was abusive towards Max, making him carry his Paraphernalia Wagon, and whipping him to force him to pull his sleigh.
He chased an innocent Wuzzy Woozoo out of sheer sadism, despite it being the only one left in the community.
He stole all of the Whos' presents, decorations, and food in an attempt to destroy their Christmas spirit.
After his reflection corrupted him into being evil again, the Grinch used his inventions to torment the Cat in the Hat and other victims.
Trivia[]
The 2000s Grinch (who is portrayed by Jim Carrey) doesn't qualify as one due to being far too much of an obnoxious manchild, acts incredibly petty, and was put through humiliating scenarios (ex. being force-fed Who-pudding).
