~ Tombstone to Spider-Man |
Lonnie Thompson Lincoln (also known as Tombstone or The Big Man of Crime) is the overarching antagonist of the animated TV series The Spectacular Spider-Man. He is depicted as a calculating, emotionless, and highly intelligent crime lord known as The Big Man (as opposed to being a Mafia enforcer like his comic book incarnation) though to the public he has the image of benevolent wealthy man, acting as a philanthropist.
He was voiced by Keith David in "Survival of the Fittest". In all subsequent appearances, he was voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- Keith David (first episode only) and Kevin Michael Richardson do a very awesome job at making him sound menacing and intimidating.
- Regarding charm and intelligence, his reputation is that of a charitable entrepreneur so he blends in with the rest of society quite well despite his albinism, to the point where it takes almost two whole seasons just for Spider-Man to bring him down.
- Despite being a brutal crime lord, he does have standards. He stays to help Spider-Man find a pumpkin bomb hidden at his ballroom party, and states that he would even allow him to stop crimes that directly endanger civilians had he joined him, showing he does care for others.
- He helps Spider-Man save Hammerhead after the latter gets kidnapped by the Green Goblin, showing he cares for his henchmen if they're loyal.
- As proven by his introduction, he's not at all shy of getting his own hands dirty in a fight. He also knows how to use the environment to his advantage, as shown when he saves Spider-Man from Doc Ock with too many witnesses around only to then fight the former when they're finally alone underground.
- Despite getting beaten and arrested near the end of the series, he successfully bails himself out of jail the very next day, making him a Karma Houdini.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
- He turns Jackson Brice (Shocker), Flint Marko (Sandman) and Alexander O'Hirn (Rhino) into supervillains to fight Spider-Man with Osborn's help by subjecting them to dangerous experiments (albeit they enter it willingly). These villains would cause more collateral damage by themselves later in which the threat to the lives of civilians have been taken with more gravity than usual.
- It's heavily implied that he'll kill his own subordinates for switching loyalties, as some of Green Goblin's goons state that they "might as well put the toe-tags on themselves" if they do so, and Tombstone himself tells Hammerhead to "expect a severance package soon" after firing him for his betrayal.
