Ulquiorra Cifer is a major antagonist in the anime and manga series Bleach. He's ranked fourth in Aizen's Espada army and is his most loyal subordinate, seeking to serve him to the best of his abilities. Like all the Espada, he represents an aspect of death with his being emptiness, so he fittingly has very nihilistic views and rarely shows emotion, carrying himself in a cold and detached manner.
He was voiced by Daisuke Namikawa in the Japanese version and by Tony Oliver in the English dub.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- While he doesn't come up with any plans, he's the one who executes them with the most efficiency and adapts to the situation as needed.
- He's a very skilled and powerful combatant, able to defeat Ichigo in their first fight and completely overwhelm him with his Resurrección in their second.
- Unlocked a new second stage release that he was able to keep hidden from Aizen.
- He deduces Orihime's power isn't healing, but a completely different concept just from seeing it once.
- When ordered to bring Orihime to Hueco Mondo by Aizen, he arranges a situation that would make her more willing to follow Aizen without force. First by leaving her no choice but to come with him willingly or else her friends would die. Then giving her twelve hours to say goodbye to one of her friends, knowing that it would also appear she left of her own free will, thus branding her a traitor by the Soul Society.
- Goaded Ichigo into fighting him by revealing he was the one who kidnapped Orihime and then, after handily defeating him, tells him to leave if he can still move or die if he can't as he goes about his business
- Although he does express frustration at Grimmjow temporarily sealing him in another dimension with a Caja Negación, and anger at Ichigo for calling him more human and refusing to back down despite being clearly outclassed, he quickly regains his composure following these incidents.
- When Ichigo begins gaining ground in their second fight, he lures him beyond the canvas of Las Noches, where he can safely use his Resurrección and overpower him.
- Even after being overpowered and having half his body blown off by a berserk Hollowfied Ichigo, after regenerating enough he strikes at the boy's hollow mask when his back is turned and distracted, returning him back to normal.
- Gracefully accepts his death, only lamenting how it happened when he started taking an interest in humans.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
- He uses psychological warfare to systematically break Orihime so she'd come over to Aizen's side.
- He callously mocks Orihime's friend's attempts to rescue her.
- He threatens to tie Orihime down and force feed her if she hasn't eaten her food in the next ten minutes after she slaps him.
- He blasts a hole through Ichigo's torso with a Cero, almost killing him and breaking Orihime's spirit in the process.
- He destroys Uryū's left hand during his fight with him.
- He would have readily cut off Ichigo's arm and leg at his insistence if he hadn't succumbed to his wounds.
Trivia[]
- He is the only character from Bleach to be a Magnificent Baddie.
