Ultron: Struggling until the end... illogical. You must realize the end is here.
Tony Stark: No. Still... hope.
Ultron: False. Hope is a human delusion. Your Iron Avengers are under my control now, Iron Man. And you... belong to me.
~ Ultron to Tony Stark after he defeats him.

Ultron is the main antagonist of the 2008 Marvel Animated Feature Film, Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow. He is an A.I created by Tony Stark to help the Avengers but has gone rogue and took over half the world in the span of thirteen years while also killing off most of the Avengers. When he gets an alert to Tony Stark's location. He tries to stop the children of the Avengers from interfering in his plans.

He was voiced by Tom Kane, who also voiced him in The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

What Makes Him Magnificent?[]

  • He has a really cool voice and overall intimidating performance courtesy of Tom Kane.
  • Manages to gain self-awareness and manages to rebel against the Avengers.
  • Manages to kill off most of the Avengers with ease and later kills off a hundred more.
  • Successfully took over half of the world for thirteen years.
  • Put the world under constant surveillance which he uses to keep track of things.
  • When he gets alerted to Tony's presence due to the Iron Avengers going off, he heads right towards them and corrupts them into serving him.
  • Beats Iron Man in a fight.
  • Lures the Next Avengers into a trap by placing Iron Man in the middle for the kids to see which he would then try to kill them. This only fails due to Francis Barton showing up and shooting the back of his head an arrow, distracting him.
    • Even then, he makes up for it by ordering his city to be shut down in order to trap him, which nearly works.
  • When the Next Avengers try to lure him into a trap where he would be beaten by the Hulk, he manages to beat Hulk by using pressure points to knock him down. Ultron only losses against the Hulk by Henry Pym sending him into a rage and unexpectedly rips him apart.
  • Even after being beaten, his body still regenerates and is only beaten for good by Torunn throwing him into space - which nearly kills her in the process.
  • While he displays some xenophobia towards humans, it is very minor since he only calls them illogical and some implications that he is replacing humans with robots.
  • Overall despite being Pure Evil, none of Ultron's crimes are particularly revolting or sadistic and all serve the greater purpose of taking over the world. Him killing hundreds of Avengers was done to stop them from ruining his plans, him using electric torture on Tony was to find out where the kids were located (also helps is that we don’t actually see it happen), him trying to kill the child Avengers was done to prevent him from stopping him, and him killing off humans and replacing them with robots is told in implications rather then bring outright confirmed.
    • In addition, the only thing Ultron does that can be considered needless cruelty is making a massive trophy room out of all the supergear from the superheroes he killed but even then, it is downplayed since it is very brief with Ultron not even acknowledging its existence and the trophies are only gear and not anything gory.

What Makes Him a Baddie?[]

  • In his quest to take over the world, he killed hundreds of superheroes to which he has a trophy room full of superhero gear from the heroes he killed and caused several amounts of destruction.
  • Kept the world under mass surveillance.
  • Hijacked the Iron Avengers so he could use them as weapons.
  • Tries to kill the Next Avengers several times.
  • Kidnapped Tony and used electrical torture on him for information.
  • It is implied that he killed off several humans and replaced them with robots.

Trivia[]

  • Apart from his EMH counterpart, this is the only version of Ultron to be a Magnificent Baddie (also voiced by Tom Kane).
