~ Unagami to Jay |
Unagami is a major antagonist in Ninjago, serving as the main antagonist of Season 12 and a minor character for the rest of the series.
He is the sentient artificial intelligence that runs the Prime Empire video game and orchestrates events to escape to the real world in pursuit of vengeance against his creator Milton Dyer. After Nadakhan, he is Jay's archenemy.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- He has a tragic backstory played for sympathy. He was created by Dyer to give players the most intense experience possible, but when he interprets Dyer's instructions literally and sucked Dyer's friend/tester Scott into the game after deducing that was the best way to give players "the most intense experience possible", Dyer abandons him and shuts him down without any explanation.
- He faked his shutdown and completed Prime Empire himself in secret, fooling skilled video game developers Dyer and his benefactor Vast Industries.
- He figures out that he can escape into the real world by constructing a portal called the Manifestation Gate and specifically codified into the rules of Prime Empire that once players lost all their lives, they'd be turned into energy cubes that Unagami needed to power the portal.
- He's able to rally up the Mechanic and his gang to serve him as his proxies in the real world.
- He successfully ensured the activation of Prime Empire would release a massive energy surge that would turn all games into it and he tricked hundreds of players into getting sucked into the game.
- After the Mechanic failed to acquire the original Prime Empire motherboard and gets imprisoned, Unagami exploits the opportunity to hack into Kryptarium Prison and release all the prisoners so they could serve him and acquire the original console and motherboard.
- He correctly deduces the ninja would get vehicles from Scott to participate in the game's race and uses this to soon discover the location of Scott's base and defeat his oldest foe.
- He slowly whittles the ninja down little by little as their time in the game continues, manipulating opportunities to his advantage whenever possible, until only Jay is left.
- He successfully completes his Manifestation Gate and travels to the real world to launch his invasion of Ninjago City, despite Jay's best attempts to stop him.
- Ultimately, Jay is only able to save the day by granting Unagami what he wants, a confrontation with his creator, Milton Dyer.
- However, upon learning that Dyer felt immense remorse about shutting him down and didn't know he had emotions along with Dyer revealing Unagami's intended purpose of providing joy and offer to take him home to learn and improve on his code, Unagami gracefully redeems himself and releases all the people he trapped in the game. Additionally, he releases all the game characters as well as Unagami fairly reasoned that by Dyer's logic, they deserved a chance at freedom and happiness too.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
- He trapped hundreds of people inside Prime Empire and enforced a tyrannical regime inside through his drones and army.
- He threatened to kill the Mechanic if he failed him again.
- He automatically turned a significant portion of players into energy cubes once they'd lost all their lives.
- He launched a violent invasion of Ninjago City once he finally escaped into the real world.
- He tried to kill Jay.
