Alright onto the second pair from Michael Clayton

What's the Work?[]

Michael Clayton is a 2007 legal thriller created by Tony Gilroy and starring George Cloony. This film is about a man named Michael Clayton, who is a “fixer” for a law firm. Michael’s firm works for a company named U/North, whom one of their lawyers, Arthur, ends up having a public freakout with and accuses them of pushing a deadly weed killer. When Michal is sent to handle things, he soon realizes Arthur is right. Two candidates from the film, second one are these pair of antagonists.

Who are Mr. Verne and Mr. Iker?[]

Mr. Verne is contacted by Karen through a code, given to her by Don Jefferies. Verne asks her if she has email and if she is alone, to which Karen confirms. Verne then uploads Karen to an encryption package. Mr. Verne and Mr. Iker meet up at a golf course then proceed with their assignment. They track Arthur all over the city, break into his apartment to look for information, wiretap his phone, and record a phone call between him and Anna. They also spot Michael Clayton trying to visit Arthur at his apartment. Upon listening into during his apartment, they listen to Arthur preparing an announcement to the world that U/North is pushing out a weed killer killing people. Mr. Verne shows the recording to Karen, who requests the death of Arthur. Verne tries to get Karen to discuss it with Don Jefferies first, but ahe refuses.

The two ambush Arthur at his home wgen he opens his door by tasing him which results in paralysis, and using an inhaler to prevent him from screaming. They dragArthur to his bathroom, where they take his shoe and sock off and inject a fatal overdose of drugs into his foot. They put the sock and shoe back on after Arthur has died, then move on their merry way.

The assassin duo keep watch on Arthur's girlfriend - Anna - when she arrives in New York. When they noticed Michael entering her hotel, they proceed to get suspicious of him. Stalking Michael, they spot him breaking into Arthur's apartment, so they call the police to stop him. The next day, Mr. Verne spots Michael collecting Arthur's memos on U/North, proving they are killing people with their weed killer. He reports this to Karen, who requests him to kill Michael. The Two track down Michael and plant a bomb in his car. When Micharl. drives, they tail him until he stops. The two detonate bomb then drive off, having succeeded in their goals.

Or so it seems when Michael is revealed to have not been in the car, but nothing shows they get published for it.

Are They Magnificent?[]

Likeability: Yup, they are skilled assassins who are entertaining to watch given how professional and clean at killing they are.

Intelligence: They are assassins with clear experience who set up a code to have clients contact them, repeatedly spy on Arthur without him noticing, break into his apartment, wiretap his phone and and catch him having a phone call with Anna, flawlessly kill Arthur by tasing him in order to paralyze him, using an inhaler to prevent him from screaming, inject with drugs to frame his death as a suicide, call the police on Michael to remove him from Arthur's apartment, and plants a bomb in his car, nearly succeeding in killing him with their failure only being due to dumb luck.

Are They Baddies? Too much?[]

Easily. They are assassins who repeatedly spy on Arthur, break into his apartment to plant wiretaps, murder him in cold blood, and tried to bomb Michael's car in order to kill him, and have no issue with covering up crimes for a shady company.

Despite this, I wouldn't say they are too evil. They aren't sadistic, arrogant, nor do they engage in pointless cruelty. Like with Michael, they are still just doing their jobs and take it in a professional manner. They do try to convince Karen that killing Arthur might not be a good idea showing they are pragmatic, and the scene where they murder Arthur has more focus on how they are cold-blooded professionals rather than them being heartless monsters, and U/North is pushing out weed killer that is lethal to people so they still look better in comparison.

Verdict?[]

Keepers.
