Sevika vs Smeech

With the glorious evolution of a proposal also being up, here is one to follow up, someone I had overlooked when the first season was out, whose status still remains firm with the release of the second season. So let the trial commence.

What is the Work?[]

Arcane is a great 2021 animated series released by Netflix that recently had it's second and final season concluded, and created by Riot Games as expanded material to their famous(ly self-contradicting) 2009 game, League of Legends. In the world of Ruterra, there exists the region of Piltover and it's undercity, the downtrodden region of Zaun, with 2 sides of the coin explored as the falling out between 2 sisters, Violet and Powder occur, and the partnership of Jayce Talis and Viktor leads to the creation of HexTech, which shall bring technological advancement to Piltover. As the two stories slowly intersect with each other, culminating in Powder going mad and becoming Jinx, the 2 regions are now at the brink of war against each other, interesting the likes of outside influences such as the Black Rose or the Noxus general, Ambessa Medarda, as the second season slowly builds up to the Arcane going unstable and leading to the annihilation of humanity during the "glorious evolution".

Silco, the main villain of the first season, already counts, and thanks to the second season, is now solidly keeping. But I think I can make a simple case for his right-hand, Sevika.

Who is Sevika? What Has She Done?[]

Sevika is one of the residents of the downtrodden regions of Zaun, desiring for it to be free from Piltover/Topside oppression due to brutal repressions faced by the Piltover Enforcers. Slowly being disillusioned with Vander's peace-keeping methods, Sevika was swayed by Silco's agenda for a vicious revolution against Piltover and so abandons Vander in hopes of serving him as Silco introduces Shimmer, a big strength-enhancing drug, to use to kill Vander and take over Zaun. However, a young girl named Powder set up a bomb to defeat Silco, to which Sevika decides to shield Silco from the blast, losing her arm in the process. Silco, upon finding Powder after a big falling out with her sister Vi, adopts her and molds her to Jinx...

This becomes a headache for Sevika. As she becomes SIlco's right-hand, Sevika is tasked with running the day to day management of Silco's vast criminal empire with great efficiency, but then Jinx, being the loose cannon she is due to her growing instability, ends up causing massive issues for Sevika as she is the one tasked to clean up what all messes Jinx does. She does a good job at it, but she foresees this being a future problem that could collapse Silco's empire and frequently advises Silco on this issue.

Eventually Vi returns and confronts Sevika in a fight, where she uses some impressive tactics such as using Vi's hotheadedness and impatience to lock her arms and punch her or throw a trashcan up and then punch it mid-air to nearly hit Vi. While Vi does manage to nearly defeat her, Sevika then reveals that Silco adopted Powder and goes by Jinx now to lower her guard as Sevika stabs Vi in the abdomen and is seconds from finishing her off until a surprise shot from Caitlyn Kiramman forced a retreat to inform Silco about Vi's return.

Jinx then confronts Sevika and ties her up with threats of torture, to which even with Jinx's antics, Sevika remains defiant and then probes Jinx with Vi's return, while lying that Vi "replaced" her with Caitlyn so that she can prove to Silco how much of a liability she would be to the organization while using her to get rid of Vi and Caitlyn as threats of the organization. While Jinx seemingly laughs it off and ties her up, Sevika's work did the job as Jinx is desperate to meet Vi again and goes berserk when she sees Caitlyn accompanying her.

Eventually when a smug Chem-Baron named Finn tries to rally the Chem-Barons to overthrow Silco, Sevika was tasked with quelling the rebellion, however, she was initially tempted to turn against Silco for feeling he might lose control of Zaun and thus there goes their work for a revolution... but eventually seeing how much of a worm that Finn, she pretends to be a supporter for Fin when they confront and try to overthrow Silco, but in truth, he catches Finn offguard and slays him to set an example that would keep the other Chem-Barons in line, while making it clear to Silco that her loyalty is only temporary because he is the best option she has. Sevika is then tasked with handling Silco's operations during his absense. Upon Jinx's accidental killing of Silco, Sevika is last seen in Season 1 eying at Silco's throne.

Sevika intends to use this position to unite the Chem-Barons when they all went at war with each other upon Silco's death. When Smeech refuses Sevika's deal and suggests giving up Jinx to Piltover, Sevika refuses to give up one of their own despite her issues with Jinx. This ends up paving Jinx and Sevika to form an unlikely friendship as they open up their frustrations with the events that transpired from Silco's death. This helps as when Smeech makes an attempt on Jinx's life, Sevika sneaks upto Smeech and using the new arm Jinx created for her, curb-stomps Smeech and crushes him with her bare hands. Eventually she, Jinx and Isha ambush Vi and Cait and she helps them both escape when Vi & Cait get the upper hand.

Sevika then organizes a rally to bring all the Chem-Baron mobs as well as Jinx's supporters together, wanting to unite all of Zaun under Jinx's leadership in wake of Piltover-Noxian, which nearly worked until Jinx didn't want to show up and then Rictus suddenly attacking to arrest and surpress the movement, in which she and Jinx break into Stillwater Prison to rescue Isha when she is captured, helping the latter escape while Jinx stays behind to fight Singed's new beast, Warwick. Sevika... does not appear again until the series finale where she happily offers her support to Piltover to deal with the upcoming Noxian invasion, and ends the series becoming the new member of Piltover's council to give a voice to Zaun

Is She Magnificent?[]

Eyyup, now Sevika mostly shines in as a brawler, like even when now having one arm, Sevika is still a beast of a fighter who dominates many of her fights, even with the final fight with Vi where she does ultimately win, it was a really close call that Vi herself is worn down from. But Sevika is not just some simple brute. She is Silco's Chessmaster Sidekick. She runs his operations whenever Silco is unavailable and makes sure they all run smoothly and fund a revolution against Piltover, and whenever Jinx's instability causes issues, cleans up from what all mess occurs, while continuing to advise her boss to keep Jinx in line while still managing to psychologically probe Jinx to get rid of her as well as Vi and Cait at the same time.

Her best showing is when she manipulates the Chem-Barons by pretending to join a coup against Silco before killing the ringleader, Finn, while he wasn't expecting it to keep the other Chem-Barons in line. Even upon Silco's death and the Chem-Barons now at war with each other, Sevika uses what all power she has to broker the peace, sneaking up to Smeech to thwart his attempts to assassinate Jinx, and nearly rally all of Piltover's warring factions to unite them to follow Jinx, which was only not successful due to Jinx's disinterest to follow Silco's path and the unexpected assault from Noxus, and ends being Zaun's ambassador to the Piltover council.

Is She a Baddie?[]

Sevika is the right-hand to a crime lord.... surprise... she is a villain. She is against Vander's methods of keeping the peace and views it as soft, which is why she helps run Silco's operation to flood Zaun's markets with Shimmer, and incredibly horrifying drug, and has some underhanded methods to kill Vi during their first fight, in which she not only stabs her but wants to taunt her in her possible final moments that her sister is adopted by Silco, or send Jinx to get rid of Caitlyn and Vi by claiming Vi replaced her with Cait as a cruel taunt to seeing her as a liability to Silco's operations.

She is an evil villain... but let's ignore the fact that Arcane is a dark series where literally majority of our other MB contenders, be it Silco, Singed, Viktor, Ambessa, are like so much worse than her that it's not even funny, she still earnestly want to free Zaun from Piltover oppression which is why she serves Silco as she doesn't feel Vander's method would truly help, and feels Jinx is a liability who will jeopardize it, which turns out she was right on, and yet after Silco's death, was willing to become friends with Jinx and save her life, hoping she would take her adoptive father's place, and she is happy to ally with Piltover to deal with the greater threat of Viktor and Ambessa, and accepts the position to join the Council in behalf of Zaun.

Final Verdict[]

A simple keeper
