Why did you think DARKCOM recruited you? Only those who have lost all connection to their world are truly free to fight for a different one. It is no coincidence that our whole little unholy trinity had our families taken from us. Dante, you, and I. I am your masterpiece, Lieutenant Arkham!
~ The White Rabbit revealing his true identity to Mary Arkham.

Having finished the DMC show, I thought I would try the season 1's main antagonist for this wiki, as I believe him to not only be a good villain but one that might meet the criteria of this site, so let us begin.

What is the work?[]

Devil May Cry (2025) is the Netflix animated adaptation of the video game series by the same name. Starring Demon Hunter, Dante, who is half human, half demon, son of the legendary Demon Hero Sparda. Having lost his mother and his brother (allegedly), Dante, holding onto his mother's Amulet, finds himself the target of a group of Demons who want to use the Amulet and his blood to open the barrier between the human world and Makai (the world of demons). These Demons, however, are led by in reality, a human adopted by the demons who wants to free his people and get revenge on humanity, namely Darkcom for killing his family, this vengeful supervillain is are candidate who is...

Who is White Rabbit and what has he done?[]

Before becoming White Rabbit, he was an unnamed human orphan boy with a love a Lewis Carroll's stories. Forced to be in an abusive foster home and denied help from a social worker, the boy would long for an escape, and upon seeing a tear between this world and the world of Makai, the boy would seize his chance to escape his abusive home. Despite the terrible condition of Makai (the poisoned air and monsters), he would be adopted by Makians (demons) who raised them as their own among the other children. Despite living happily with his family, he sees firsthand the horrid oppression his kind suffer at the hands of warlords and their tyrannical leader, Mundus. Even worse, his adopted sister would die as a result of the poisoned air, causing the boy to commit to finding a better home for his people, in his adulthood, making a device that could open a portal to the human realm. There, he planned to take his people to give them better lives. Sadly, due to the intervention of Darkcom and Lieutenant Mary Arkham, multiple Makians would be killed, and he would be held at gunpoint with the rest of his family. Despite his attempts to explain their conditions to Mary, a monster emerging from the portal caused Darkcom to fire upon them, killing his entire family and leaving him mortally wounded. Having lost everything, the Man, using a device to pump himself full of demon blood to keep himself on life support, decided to dedicate the rest of his life to getting revenge on Darkcom and Humanity. Donning a bunny mask, he took on the persona of the White Rabbit as he declared.

Now we all go down the rabbit hole… together.

Planning to amass forces, White Rabbit lured Makians to the human world with the promise of a better life, while he allowed them to live in abandoned buildings, he experimented on his people to turn them into monsters for his war against the humans. Planning on using Sparda's sword and an Amulet to break the human barriers., Rabbit works mysteriously. Neo Angelo gives him one half of the Amulet and tells him that Dante is the Son of Sparda and that he holds the Amulet piece. Putting a plan in motion to steal the amulet, he hires Dante through Enzo Ferno, who was really a trap to have his shapeshifting minion, Plasma, try to steal the amulet for him. Rabbit also hires a group of mercenaries to break into the Vatican museum as a distraction so he can steal the Sword of Sparda. Despite the plan to steal Dante's Amulet failing White Rabbit sets up events for Darkcom to capture Dante, thanks to blackmailing one of their men, Anders, by threatening his daughters. When Darkcom had captured Dante and was transporting him by truck, the White Rabbit and his demons launched an all-out attack on them, using Anders to deliver him the piece of the Amulet and having him free Dante. White Rabbit is able to prevent Dante from immediately getting him by shooting a rocket at a School Bus to distract him. Then, goading him to chase after him, the White Rabbit uses the fights he has against his demons to start stirring awake Dante's demonic half, only failing due to the bomb Lady put in Dante's head going off. Changing tactics, White Rabbit captures the Darkcom staff, including VP Baine, on a plane with Dante full of explosives. Revealing that the plane will explode soon, and to even half a chance at beating Agni and Rudra, he would need to unlock his Devil Trigger. White Rabbit would also place Dante's tracker in his base of operations to lure Lady's team and Darkcom into a trap, having his top Demons wipe out her entire team, getting his revenge on Lady for his family. Having awakened Dante's demonic half, White Rabbit, despite admitting he needs Dante's blood for the amulet to open the portal to Makai, he knows that Dante will come anyway due to his arrogance.

Rabbit then gets Vergil's blood from Neo Angelo, and despite promising the sword of Sparda to him, he convinces him to let him keep it to free their people, admitting he knew who Neo Angelo was the whole time (Vergil). Planning to obtain Dante's blood when he arrives, he instead is greeted by Lady, who threatens to burn Dante alive if he does not give her the complete Amulet. Discovering this was a bluff, he had his demons attack her and incapacitate her via their poison weapons. When Dante does arrive Rabbit shows him a portal to Makai and the horrid conditions there, attempting to convince him to give him his blood to ensure his people have a future on earth, telling him any lives lost would be sacrifices needed to ensure lasting peace. Dante refuses, forcing Rabbit to have his demons attack him to get his blood. During this, Lady would recover and attempt to call out Rabbit for experimenting on his people, only for Rabbit to retort that he feels his people's pain and that Darkcom would do even worse to them, pointing out that Darkcom had also brainwashed her as a child, before revealing his true identity to her. Dante then arrives and, despite losing badly, he manages to retreat via the river, getting back in the fight by eating one of his men to enter a new demonic form. Succeeding in drawing blood from Dante, he successfully manages to activate the sword of Sparda and rams it through Dante, opening the portal to Makai and beginning the invasion of the human realm. Almost killing Dante, he is only stopped by a surprise shot by Lady, destroying the device with Demon blood he was using to keep himself alive, and is defeated by Dante in Devil Trigger. Before dying, White Rabbit proclaims to Dante that he will never be welcome anywhere due to being half demon and human, before Dante cuts him in two.

Is he Magnificent? Can he think on his feet?[]

Heck, yeah, he is. White Rabbit oozes magnificence in every scene, he has a sophisticated voice, sick sword skills, and most importantly, is a master planner who stays 5 steps ahead of his opponents. Even before his villainy, he was a genius who managed to create a device that could keep open the tears in space between Earth and Makai to allow his people to travel to and from, and even when on death's door, he fashioned a way to pump demon blood into him to keep himself alive. He managed to use Enzo to lure Dante into a job that was a trap to steal the Amulet, he manipulated Darkcom into going after Dante so he could use Erner to retrieve the Amulet. He even takes advantage of Dante's heroic nature to make his escape by firing a rocket at the school bus to distract him, then using the chase to try and have him achieve his Devil trigger. Even when this fails, he just comes up with the plan to take the Darkcom higher-ups hostage on a plane with explosives to ultimately push Dante into using Devil Trigger, while using his tracker to lure Lady's team into a trap. He also had the foresight to have his men coat their weapons in poison to get an edge on their opponent.

Even after losing the amulet, he makes a comeback via eating one of his own men to power up, stabbing Dante and opening the portal to the demon realm, nearly winning as the only reason he lost was a surprise shot from Lady. Even when beaten, he does not suffer a breakdown but simply states the truth that Dante killing him will not change the fact that he does not belong here, something that would be proven true once Dante was captured by Darkcom. He is easily magnificent enough for this wiki.

What makes him a baddie? Is he too much of one?[]

Oh boy not beating around the bush here, White Rabbit is very evil, his end goal of letting all the demons into the human world will kill at least millions of people if not all of Humanity. Despite fighting for the Makians, he is willing to experiment on them and turn them into monsters, including even children, and he eats one of his men to power up towards the end. He also absolutely enjoys slaughtering humans with glee, smiling when slicing up soldiers, gleefully shooting at a school bus full of kids, and even arranging dolls torn up just how Lady's team died to mess with her. He is a bad man, to be sure.

However, he has multiple factors going for him to keep him from being too vile, one of which is his tragic backstory of being an abused foster child who was adopted by loving Makians yet forced to suffer under the warlords and harsh conditions, which took his adoptive sister's life. Despite his attempts to save his race by peacefully bringing them to the human realm, Darkcom killed his family and left him mortally wounded, driving him to seek revenge. He lives a tortured existence, and the story paints him in a very sympathetic light. The other factor is that while he is not as purely driven as he was back then, as revenge is a major goal for him he still harbors the WIE desire of freeing his people and giving them better lives. He is genuinely outraged in the present about Sprada trapping them in Makai and letting them be oppressed by Mundus and constantly reiterates he wants to free his people. Even his experiments on his own people are something he makes clear he is not happy about and feels their pain, but notes that it's a better fate than whatever Darkcom or Mundus would subject them to. Further driving this point home, Dante admits at the end of the season that while White Rabbit was wrong to take things as far as he did, many of his points were valid.

Overall, his actions, while cruel, are done out of tragedy and done for express purposes (freeing his people and revenge) and not for just evil's sake. And in comparison to the oppressive Mundus and VP Baine, who want to wipe out all demons out of bigotry, White Rabbit comes off as the lesser evil. So I believe he is not too vile for the wiki

Verdict[]

Ultimately, yes to him.
