~ Versitude revealing to Winston and Peaseblossom she had set them up at the end of "Love Hurts" |
Versitude is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Peter Quince) of the short-lived Nickelodeon fantasy sitcom, The Other Kingdom. She's King Oberon's most trusted advisor and confidant in Athenia and a constant source for when there's an issue. Although not only is she not afraid to suggest violent and harmful methods to humans, she'd constantly plot to usurp King Oberon, Queen Titania, and Princess Astral behind the king's back, and play various dirty tricks to the Athenians to which she'd often deny.
She was portrayed by Alvina August.
Her Magnificence Ranking[]
What Makes Her Magnificent?[]
- In the show's universe, fairies are incapable of lying in any way, but since Versitude's not a fairy like her close ones, (she's actually an elf), she's capable of lying and dishonesty, and she takes full advantage of this aspect by telling various lies on a regular basis, especially if it's towards someone else's disadvantage.
- In the presence of King Oberon and Queen Titania, she'll put on a facade of being a loyal -- though questionable -- ally among them, but in the shadows, she'd manipulate various inhabitants, making their lives miserable, and spying on Astral trying to sabotage her. And considering she was somehow able to become the king's advisor, it just goes to show just how charismatic and convincing her act is.
- She's very experienced with her magic powers and was shown to be more powerful than most of the fairies of the land in general, including Princess Astral. Her powers include control of the weather, fading into surroundings, teleportation, time-freezing, lightning from her hands, and various other forms of magic.
- When Winston, still adjusting to Athenia, came across Versitude asked if the inhabitants were circus people -- due to her constant popping in and out off thin air, and having a giant -- Versitude states that his mind was too simple to comprehend what they were, and claimed they were as old as the planet, had mastered the secrets and powers of nature and were their protectors.
- One day, Versitude would trick Winston into eating some berries that would slowly turn him into a donkey, with a charismatic lie about how the berries were pure ambrosia. It should be noted that Winston was already paranoid over nearly getting eaten alive several times within in his first few days in Athenia alone and he had no reason to trust a word she said. But considering Winston didn't want the dandelions and radishes from nature as a snack, he'd eat the berries anyway. So basically Versitude took advantage of his desperate state, and dislike of nature (which he'd later grow out of)
- He'd end up having to resort to confessing before the spell got worse, Titania reverses the spell, which would change him back when he proves himself worthy. It would be several days until Winston's able to change back with a selfless act — he used his donkey teeth to free a young fairy named Peaseblossom by chewing through the vines she was stuck in.
- When Astral gets a cold one day and loses control over her fairy powers while at school, causing some chaos. Versitude turns up, freezes time and everyone around her but Astral, so nobody at school would know she was ever present. She also scolds Astral for nearly exposing herself and her kind and placing Athenia at risk, by not staying home as recommended to prevent the chaos from getting out of hand in the first place, but still reverses Astral's magic and semi-restores order.
- Not to long afterwards, she fires Oswald from being Astral's protector and assigns him a new task of "aligning the kingdoms" back in Athenia, stating that she'd be watching her Astral herself as her new guardian, which she would indeed do over the next few days of Astral's "other walk".
- Winston and Peaseblossom would come across a dying summerberry bush, even though plants usually never die in Athenia. But when the duo came across Versitude and asked to see Oberon, Versitude not only insisted Oberon was too busy and refused to help out with the issue, but she also decides to frame the duo for "destroying" the berry bush, knowing they were innocent, she suggests they fix the bush on their own, assuming they'd be unable to do so.
- A few days later, Versitude would place Winston under arrest for false crimes (including falsely destroying the berry bush as mentioned above), and have him taken to Athenian court. She sentences him to the Bogs of Nevermore where he'd dig tunnels for the trolls for the rest of his life. Thankfully, Queen TItania and King Oberon allowed Winston to stand on trial as a citizen of Athenia, and make his case. And then, when Peaseblossom became Winston's defense attorney and exposes Versitude's lies and frees Winston, Versitude keeps her cool and responds by telling Oberon his faith in "others" could signal their end.
- When Winston and Peaseblossom overhear one of Versitude's threats on Astral and realize just how nasty she was, they tried to gather some proof that could expose her. Unfortunately, Versitude got aware she's being spied on and intentionally sets up a series of events that would get Winston and Peaseblossom suspicious of her actions (placing a mysterious item in the queen's tea, declaring an intention to overthrow the king) then when they turn out to be false, and King Oberon eventually has enough of their stories and refuses to listen to them due to his trust in Versitude, she reveals to Winston and Peaseblossom that she had planned all this and this was the intention, and with them out of the way, she was untouchable, bragging about how she manipulated the duo.
- She cleverly chose to magically lock Astral and the gang inside the gym, during the solar eclipse, as she knew Astral and Brendoni's powers wouldn't work at the time and they'd have a very slim chance of escape. The only reason they were able to get out in time was due to Gigi hearing Hailey's screaming and opening the door from the outside.
- Despite going through a brief breakdown when Astral and her friends manage to prevent Mr. Quince from bulldozing the tree and save Athenia, she quickly regains composure when Oswald had came back from the quest she had sent her on and found out a dark secret about Tristan much to Versitude's pleasure. As a result, her brief Villainous Breakdown doesn't count as a true disqualifying factor.
- Despite holding a distrust and dislike of humanity and their ways, Versitude's never shown to be sexist, racist and never becomes a bigot. On top of that, she seems to have a couple of valid points over why to not trust the "others". One of the main reasons was the fairies were once united with the humans serving as their guides, but after some pollution for the fairy land, along with buildings, cars and sewage, the fairies had to build a barrier between the fairy world and the human world. Unfortunately, said context doesn't get explored much due to the show's abrupt cancellation.
What Makes Her a Baddie?[]
- She views the human race as "wasteful, silly creatures", and little more than pawns and hers to mess with.
- She was willing to have Winston eaten alive by Edgar the Giant just because she had a distrust of "others" due to how dangerous they could be. Plus, on other occasions, she tricked Winston into eating some berries that nearly turned him into a donkey, framed him for "destroying" a summerberry bush, and placed him on trial for his life.
- She's shown to be willing to go to war against the "others" due to her viewing them as despicable and untrusting, not caring about all of the lives she'd endanger for the human race, as long as the Athenians prevail. Thankfully, King Oberon and Queen Titania aren't interested in her plan.
- She went behind Oberon and Titania's backs to work with their enemy tribe Spartania -- specifically King Reed -- for an unknown plan.
- She locked Astral and her teammates inside the gym as she knew Astral and Brendoni would be unable to use her powers to escape during the eclipse, and that Athenia was at risk of being bulldozed and destroyed at the time. (Which she wasn't responsible for).
Trivia[]
- She has a major Debated Validation that could affect her status as an MB. Due to the series being cancelled mid-story arc, we don't get to find out about all the details for Versitude's plan. We know she plans to somehow to take over Athenia as its ruler, and prevent Astral from ever returning home, and how she views the "others" as "wasteful, silly, creatures", but there's not a lot of input on what exactly she had in store for the "others" and their homeland. She claims that she wants to "align the kingdoms", and that she just wants to protect Athenia as the "others" had made a mess of their land before, and that they had to fight back in order to defend their homeland, although considering her tendency to mince the details, it's likely she doesn't actually care about the Athenians. If the storyline continues and Versitude turns out to be a Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist, who doesn't truly care about Athenia or just wanted to attack humanity just because of her own personal fears, it would cost her her MB label, as she'd be too detestable to qualify anymore.
