Vincent Sobel, also known as Vigilante, is a major character in the Arrowverse as a major antagonist in Season 5 and a major character in Season 6 of Arrow along with a cameo antagonist in Season 3 of The Flash and a posthumous character for the rest of the franchise. He was a former police officer and partner of Dinah Drake who survived seeming death by gaining the ability to withstand extreme punishments following the particle accelerator explosion and became a ruthless vigilante dedicated to wiping out crime by any means necessary.
What Makes Him Magnificent[]
- He was an undercover cop for years who infiltrated various criminal organizations to take them down.
- He has a tragic backstory where he fell in love with his new undercover partner Dinah, but they were caught and he was seemingly killed in front of her eyes just when the particle accelerator exploded, but in reality had survived as the explosion had given him the power to heal and withstand extreme and fatal injuries. He became disillusioned with police work as felt it hadn't accomplished enough and resorted to become a vigilante to wipe out crime.
- He is a one-man army who uses specialized military weaponry and disguise to launch a one-man lethal war on crime.
- He single-handedly took down an entire human trafficking exchange and freed the girl that was about to be sold.
- He manages to stay ahead of his opponents, already stopping a robbery by Eric Dunn's gang at Star City National before they could even get there or confronting the robbers just when they thought they were fast enough to escape his wrath after quickly robbied Star City Allied Bank.
- He distracts Team Arrow for a second and disappears without a trace when they confronted him.
- He tracked the last robber of the gang, Eric Dunn himself, to Papp Motel and nearly succeeded in killing him had Green Arrow not detected the attack and saved Dunn just in time.
- He deduced the trap Team Arrow set for him by pretending to be robbers robbing a bank and knocked out the two lookouts and took Curtis hostage to confront and expose their charade, turning the tables on them.
- He had a sensor activated smoke bomb on him so when Green Arrow defeated him and tried to expose his identity, the smoke bomb exploded and allowed Vigilante to escape without a trace.
- He ambushed Oliver and Diggle when they were trying to track him and nearly killed them had Barry not coincidentally come out of nowhere to ask their help for an unrelated problem. Even Barry admitted Oliver and Diggle were just about to die when he arrived.
- He ambushed Mayor Oliver's limo and took down Dinah and Thea before engaging Oliver himself, escaping when he sensed police cars incoming.
- He survived Prometheus' attack on him and tricked Prometheus into thinking he died when Prometheus pushed him off the edge of a building.
- He had sensors installed in the building across from City Hall where he was about to assassinate Oliver from so that he could detect when Team Arrow arrived to try and surprise attack him, instead disappearing from his vantage point and ambushing Team Arrow instead, defeating John and Rene, and escaping.
- After Dinah narrowly foiled his attempt to assassinate anti-vigilante and corrupt politician Emily Pollard, he tracked down Pollard to her apartment to sneak in and when Dinah stopped him and used her sonic cry to blast him away and crack his visor, he took his helmet off to expose his true identity as Vincent to stun Dinah long enough to escape.
- He cuts the lights to the news station right after Pollard's news interview and confronted her. When she tried to tell him that killing her would only make her a martyr and ensure the anti-vigilante measure would pass, he responded that he didn't care as long as there would be less corrupt politicians on the street, showcasing his sole and genuine determination to ridding corruption regardless of personal consequences on him.
- He saved Dinah from an accidental shot by a police officer and apologized for letting her think he was dead for 4 years, and after she lets him go, she discovers that he left her a gift at her car, showing he still cared about her.
- He infiltrated Cayden James' criminal organization and deceived them all into thinking he was on their side and discovered Team Arrow's identities with them.
- He gave up killing criminals for Dinah and instead intimidated them so much so that they would voluntarily turn themselves in.
- When Dinah confronted him and revealed she knew he was working for Cayden James and handcuffed him, he broke free of the handcuffs and knocked Dinah out before apologizing to Dinah and quickly escaping.
- He purposefully lets the Outsiders (Rene, Dinah, and Curtis) track him down to an abandoned warehouse and jammed their comms so he could talk to Curtis and reveal he was undercover in James' organization all along and give them info on James' plan to kill countless people in the subway tunnels tonight, winning over Curtis when he thought he could just be leading them to a trap by reminding him that he could have trapped them here, but he didn't. Thanks to his intel, Team Arrow and the Outsiders were able to save countless lives including children.
- He sends the Outsiders a secret message using Morse code via a link to Curtis' T-spheres to warn them out an upcoming attack by James' organization on one of Oliver's safe zones, allowing Team Arrow and the Outsiders to foil the attack and saving Rene from one of James' men during the attack and swiftly taking out Sheck once and for all when he saw this and tried to retaliate.
- He revealed his undercover nature to Team Arrow when they confronted him and when reporting intel about the thermobaric bomb James had to them and the Outsiders at the latter's base, swats aside a suggestion from the skeptical Oliver on why he didn't just take them to James' hideout by responding that James would detonate the bomb then which had enough firepower to destroy the city.
- He agrees to the practical suicide mission of planting Felicity's sniffer onto James' servers to get all of his servers, successfully doing so and evading suspicion long enough to transmit the data back to Felicity and destroy the evidence.
- After being captured by James, he refuses to talk even after being tortured by Anatoly.
- He breaks free of his bonds and reunites with Dinah when the Outsiders came to rescue him and when he reveals he wasn't the one who turned on his comms cluing them to his location, survives an explosion by James and gets up to go free Dinah from the collapsed rubble before tragically being impaled and killed at the hands of Black Siren and James.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
- He is willing to murder criminals who don't deserve to die in cold-blood.
- He coldly dismisses all innocent deaths like the three civilians he indirectly killed while bombing the motel as collateral damage.
- He has tried to kill Team Arrow.
- He attempted to assassinate Mayor Oliver and was willing to massacre the other passengers in his limo if Oliver didn't surrender himself.
Trivia[]
- He is so far the only version of the Vigilante to be approved as MB.
