Walter and Madge Nelson are minor characters in Illumination's 5th full-length feature animated film Minions, a prequel to the Despicable Me franchise. They are a couple of cheerful and immensely polite parents of the Nelson family who are also a pair of thieves leading their family in bank robberies and museum thieveries as a family hobby. When encountering the three Minions, Kevin, Stuart, and Bob, they happily befriend them and give them a ride to Orlando to go to Villain Con to see Scarlet like they are before departing and appearing once in a while to cheer for them when things go great for them.

Walter Nelson is voiced by Michael Keaton, who also played Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Madge Nelson is voiced by Allison Janney.

What Makes Them Magnificent?[]

  • They have an upbeat, cheerful and friendly persona to them as a couple that adds charm to them by means of making them likable for the audience.
  • As the tie-in short Binky Nelson Unpacified conveys, they regularly perform successful robberies on museums for artificial artifacts that they manage to successfully get away with scot-free.
  • They have raised their children so well that Binky was able to sneak back into the museum using his gadgets by going through the top window,
  • They pull off a bank robbery heist that results in them taking a lot of money with ease.
  • They manage to evade some cop cars pretty well blasting the cop cars' windows with paint guns to give them trouble chasing them before Kevin and Stuart unintentionally cause a water tower to fall down using an explosive gun that blocks them off.
  • They are shown to care for their children, often bonding with them through their family trips of bank and museum robbery heists, giving them apple slices, not getting mad at Tina when she admits she triggered the fire alarm that caused the cop cars to chase after them and instead comforting her by telling her that everyone makes mistakes and that she is merely learning, comforting Binky when they lose his pacifier in a museum by dotingly telling him that it may be about time he starts growing from it, and checking on Binky at night to see how he is out of love for him.
  • They are genuinely affable towards the Minions, offering them a ride in their car as hitchhikers, offering them apple slices, bonding with them in the car as they take them to Orlando, wishing them luck when departing, cheering them on when they get Scarlet's ruby and when they become rulers of London, refusing to join the Villain Con villains in chasing after them when Scarlet wants them dead and instead urging them to escape, and being happy for them as they are being honored by the queen of London for their heroism and valiance.

What Makes Them Baddies?[]

  • They're conveyed to regularly rob museums of priceless artifacts and banks of lots of money.
  • They shoot paintball guns at police car windows and are proud of Kevin and Stuart when the two Minions fire an explosive gun that causes a water tower to fall down and the cop cars to crash into it.
  • It is implied that they take lethal force towards rival gangs based on how after Walter makes a joke about how they were concerned that they might have been a rival gang, Binky pulls out a bomb that Walter takes from him explaining it was a joke and throws out the window.
