NOTE: For his ghostly counterpart, look here. |
“ | Yoshikage Kira: You can call me Yoshikage Kira. I'm currently thirty-three years old. Not that you'd care, but I reside in northeast Morioh's villa district. Also, I've yet to marry. In order to make a living, I work for Kame Yu department stores. After a long day's work, I return home no later than 8 PM. I don't like smoking, but do enjoy the occasional drink. I'm always in bed by 11 PM, and I make it a point to get no less than eight hours of sleep each night. Before bed, I drink a warm glass of milk, it's always coupled with twenty minutes of stretching to decompress from the long work day. Sweet dreams are the usual result of this. I then awake as refreshed and recharged as a newborn child, ready to take on the day's challenges, and after my last checkup I was given a clean bill of health. Shigechi: What's the big idea, creeper? Why are you telling me this crap?! Yoshikage Kira: For as long as I can remember I've done everything in my power to live a productive life that allows me to pursue a lasting inner peace. This may be a foreign concept, but I choose not to concern my self with winning or losing, life's troubles, or enemies who bring sleepless nights. That is how I cope with this backwards life we find ourselves living. It's what brings me happiness in a world fraught with hardship and misery. Of course, if I were ever to engage in combat, I would win the battle without question. |

~ Kira's famous monologue before killing Shigechi. |
Yoshikage Kira, later known as Kosaku Kawajiri, is the main antagonist of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable. He is a serial killer who is obsessed with women's hands and who wants to live a quiet life with no repercussions for his killings. He wields the Stand known as Killer Queen.
He is voiced by Toshiyuki Morikawa in Japanese and by D.C Douglas in English.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- He is both talented and incredibly smart but has always purposefully gotten third place in competitions to not draw attention to himself.
- Having a sarcastic charm and cockiness that makes it hard not to enjoy his presence.
- His goal of living a quiet and peaceful life while not a redeeming quality, is nevertheless something that most people can relate to while being very humble compared every other JoJo main antagonist.
- His stand Killer Queen has an awesome and threatening design while causing cool explosions.
- He has a quiet and menacing leitmotif that perfectly illustrates his seemingly innocent but dangerous personality.
- While he has his fair share of very sympathetic victims like Reimi Sugimoto or Shigechi Yangyu, a number of them are also shown to be unlikable jerks like a gold digger, a few wannabe muggers, a couple that behaved like complete jerkasses to him and a hypocritical pervert.
- His wish for his quiet life makes him very pragmatic, leading to him only killing when someone actively threatens him.
- Being an incredible determinator, who often carries on through brutal injuries and is even ready to chop off his own hand for his goals.
- Is a huge villainous underdog with almost no allies and a stand that is weaker in combat than both Josuke and Jotaro's and still achieves several near-villain victories through clever planning, determination and luck.
- Has successfully murdered dozens of women for over a decade without ever drawing attention to himself.
- Effortlessly defeats and kills Shigechi despite him having one of the strongest stands in Morioh.
- Nigh-fatally injures Jotaro Kujo himself and comes close to killing Koichi with Sheer Heart Attack all while killing a tailor that could potentially out him.
- Even after being pummeled by Star Platinum and cornered by the Morioh gang, he still manages to escape by chopping off his hand to release Sheer Heart Attack and then forcing Aya to switch his appearance with Kosaku Kawajiri before killing the latter and turning the former into a bomb.
- Has his own little arc featuring him as the protagonist that shows him saving Shinobu from Stray Cat.
- Temporarily manages to kill every main character with Bites the Dust.
- In fact, Hayato only managed to counter Bites The Dust because Kira himself wasn't aware of the Stand's weaknesses and the fact that he can't retain the loop's memories (thus being unable to realize Bites The Dust was seconds away from killing Josuke), something he could hardly plan for.
- Incorporates Stray Cat into Killer Queen to create invisible air bombs that nigh-fatally injure Okuyasu.
- Almost manages to kill Josuke and Hayato by coordinating with his father.
- Ultimately comes within seconds of activating Bites The Dust again and winning.
- Even after getting his fingers broken by Jotaro he still continuously tries to activate Bites The Dust which even Rohan respects him for.
- Accepts his death as he now can live the peaceful life he always wanted.
- Almost manages to turn the tables on Reimi Sugimoto when she has him dragged off into the unknown.
- Eventually escaped from it, but at the cost of losing his memories.
- While he is an undoubtedly disturbing and gruesome serial killer, other villains in the series have done far worse (such as Anjuro Katagiri, a child rapist appearing in the same part), preventing him from being too vile. As for his hand fetish, while creepy, it is more of a mental illness he can not control as opposed to any sadism or misogyny.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
- He is a serial killer who has remorselessly targeted dozens of women and keeping their hands as trophies.
- Murders Reimi Sugimoto's entire family and her dog before killing her.
- Ruthlessly murders Shigechi (a child) to keep his identity secret and is generally shown to be incredibly brutal when it comes to killing everybody who gets into the way of his peaceful life.
- Gives Koichi an unnecessarily sadistic beating for embarrassing him when he already has defeated him.
- Kills a complete stranger and takes over his life to escape justice.
- Killed Hayato after the latter discovered that Kira killed his father to take his place, only undoing it for pragmatic reasons.
- Shows no real signs of sadness after accidentally killing his father.
Trivia[]
- His Jorge Joestar counterpart cannot be considered a Magnificent Baddie as he is more needlessly sadistic and his perversion is not a mental illness.
