Zabuza Momochi, also known as the Demon of the Hidden Mist, is a major antagonist in Naruto. He is a Missing-Nin from the Hidden Mist village, who became an assassin after failing to overthrow the fourth Mizukage and was later hired by the crime lord Gato to kill the bridge builder Tazuna.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- His badass demeanor and fights with Kakashi coupled with his sympathetic death nicely contrast with Gato, a smug, cowardly, greedy businessman with zero likable or cool traits.
- Being an extremely skilled and competent fighter who was able to defeat and kill hundred other students during his ninja academy graduation.
- Having a tragic past due to growing up under the tyrannical reign of the Blood Mist, resulting in him becoming a cynic who believes that all Shinobi are tools.
- Tried to overthrow the despotic Fourth Mizukage and attempted to secund funds for another attempt by working for Gato, making him somewhat of an Anti-Villain.
- Saw Haku's potential and adopted him as his pupil, growing to love him like his son despite his statements to the contrary.
- Uses his Hiding in Mist Technique to cover the entire area in Mist so he can ambush Kakashi and his team.
- Avoids Kakashi's attacks by using water clones as decoys.
- Manages to catch Kakashi in his Water Prison Technique.
- Has Haku on the lookout, disguised as a Hidden Mist hunter who pretends to kill him when Kakashi has him injured so he can live to fight another day.
- Having learned how the Sharingan works, he closes his eyes during his rematch with Kakashi and again covers the entire area in mist, allowing him to injure Kakashi in a surprise attack.
- When he has the chance to slice through Haku to finish Kakashi off, he hesitates and thus loses this chance, showing that he did consider Haku more than a tool.
- After Naruto calls him out for treating Haku as if he had just been a tool, he decides to honor Haku by fighting his way through dozens of Gato's men (despite both his arms being disabled at the time) and multiple severe stabbings before impaling Gato on his Kunai multiple times and then throwing him off the bridge while promising to hunt him down in hell if he manages to become an actual demon.
- Has an incredibly sympathetic death, bleeding out next to Haku's corpse while wishing to reunite with him in the Afterlife, even though he thinks he will probably go to hell while Haku will go to Heaven.
- Proves himself just as much of a deadly fighter as before when Kabuto resurrects him as an Edo Tensei zombie, killing multiple members of the Shinobi Alliance and giving Kakashi another very good fight all while congratulating him and his allies on their growth and trying to help them to reseal him.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
- Murdered 100 of his fellow students during his graduation and later remarks that it "had been fun".
- Tried to murder an innocent old man, who just wanted to build a bridge for his city for money, so he could get another shot at overthrowing the Fourth Mizukage.
- Despite caring for Haku, he only ever treated him as if he was a tool (and told him he was multiple times) throughout their shared career, leading to Haku sacrificing himself.
- He also raised what would have otherwise probably be a kind-hearted boy into a fellow killer just because he saw potential use in him.
- While Gato very much deserved it, he still took sadistic glee in his fear while murdering him, boasting about how he would become a real demon to haunt him in hell.
