“ | How sad... they haven't learned a thing from the mistakes of their past; it's a tragedy that King Reiss took the memories of the world away from them. Because of that, they make the same mistakes over and over again. I'm sure that by the end, they'll be sending every person inside those walls off on a suicide charge, from their elders to their children; they'll go on saying that if they're going to die anyway, they might as well die a proud death. It only proves how unimaginative and set in their ways they are... the little fools. Oops. I crushed it into dust, heh, what am I doing? What're you getting so worked up for? You're not like your father, remember? You need to find joy in every little thing. Now let's turn those soldiers into proud little chunks of meat. | „ |
~ Zeke as he is suicide charged by the Survey Corps |
Zeke Yeager, otherwise known as the Beast Titan or The Beast, is the main antagonist of the Attack on Titan series.
The son of Grisha yeager and his first wife Dina Fritz, Zeke was pressured to become a Marleyan Warrior and join its military for their own agenda, becoming the War Chief of the Warriors of Marley before his eventual betrayal, and the symbolic leader of the Anti-Marleyan Volunteers. He is also the half-broher of the series' overall protagonist, Eren Yeager, who sought to free him from what he perceived to be brainwashing from their father, and is the archenemy of Eren's former mentor, Levi Ackerman.
In Japanese, he is voiced by Takehito Koyasu who also voiced Toji Fushiguro in Jujutsu Kaisen, while in the English dub he was voiced by Jason Liebrecht who also voiced Dabi in My Hero Academia.
What Makes Him Magnificent?[]
- Formulates a plan with his mentor Tom Ksaver to play both Marley and Paradis Island for years to claim the Founding Titan, an ability only he could command due to him being a descendant of King Fritz, for his own agenda.
- Upon learning that the Marleyan police have closed in on the Eldian Restorationists and his parents, Zeke leads the police to the Restorationists to secure the safety of his grandparents.
- While initially a sloppy Warrior candidate due to him broken by pressure, Zeke ends up gaining a dedicated drive to his goals that helped him improve substantially and prove himself a worthy successor to Ksaver in inheriting the Beast Titan, and become Chief of the operation on Paradis, organizing the activity of all his associates while keeping himself a complete secret.
- Unlike most of the other Titans, Zeke is one of the very few characters who have enough control over their Titan form to be capable of speech. he also has great motor control over the Titan as well able to remove Mike Zacharias's 3DM gear without even damaging it despite his Titan being one of the largest in the entire series.
- Secretly turns the entire village of Ragako into Titans that are all under his control and sic them against the Survey Corps as a distraction.
- Attacked Mike Zacharias, seized his ODM and learnt about the progress Paradis made in the few years.
- When Reiner and Bertolt disagree over his command and risk the operation to free Annie Leonhart, Zeke makes the rightful deduction that the Survey Corps will be unable to torture Annie and then defeats Reiner in a battle on their Titans, all to ensure they still remain under their thumb.
- Having anticipated the Survey Corps arriving to retake Wall Maria, Zeke organizes an effective sneak attack that sees the entire Survey Corps, including its leader, the equally brilliant Commander Erwin Smith, killed, and only 9 soldiers surviving while he manages to escape custody and take Reiner with him to safety.
- Became a highly respected military official inspite of his Eldian heritage that he is able to attend meetings with the Marleyan High Command and that his opinion on any charge on Paradis to be an absolute must.
- Meeting up with Yelena, Zeke rallies up her loyalty and use her to form an entire organization of Anti-Marleyan volunteers, using them to bring technological progress to Paradis and strengthen it into a power to be feared.
- Using the greedy ambitiousness of the Azumabito Clan, Zeke had been organizing the alliance between Hizuru and Paradis to further strengthen the latter diplomatically.
- Manipulates Marley to go to a crippling war against Paradis so that the entire Marley military can be massively crippled during the Raid on Liberio that was orchestrated by him and Eren, as well as faking his death to escape to Paradis.
- Having been full aware of Paradis being unable to trust him and were planning to feed him to a Titanized Historia, Zeke laced multiple containers filled with wine bottles laced with his spinal fluid, using this to infect the entire High Command of Paradis' military and use his powers to turn them all into Titans that he controls, destroying the entire chain of command on Paradis' military in the process.
- Has the soldiers guarding him drink the infected wine to turn them all into Titans and nearly make an escape when he sics them all to Levi as a distraction.
- Overall, coming in contact with Eren, he nearly succeeds in his Eldian Euthanasia agenda, having set up a secret test of character bringing Eren to the Coordinate of Paths to see where his real loyalties lie.
- While Levi tried to kill him for supposedly influencing Eren, Zeke detonated his Thunder Spear to kill himself and Levi, crippling his arch-enemy.
- While ultimately outgambitted by Eren and reduced to a shell of his former self, upon being taught by Armin on what is the true value of a human life, Zeke regains his dignity as he sacrifices his own life to stop the Rumbling and save the world from Eren's apocalyptic plans.
- Despite having a breakdown after Eren betrayed him, it was understandable as he didn't expect Eren to start the Rumbling by betraying him, and soon recovered after his conversation with Armin.
- For how heinous Zeke's crimes are, he is filled to the brim with various humanizing qualities while being legitimately affable, all due to his evil stemming from a rather troubled past of pressure and discrimination disgruntling his outlook on life, while having a genuinely well-intentioned agenda of saving the world from Titans and end the Eldians' misery as a result of the unfair discrimination from the rest of the world by making sure they all die peacefully.
What Makes Him a Baddie?[]
- Sells out his parents and the Eldian Restorationists to be tortured & titanized, with his father Grisha nearly killed.
- Using his ability to transform Eldians, be they prisoners or even civilians, into Titans and place them into his control using his scream, Zeke uses them for deadly terrorist attacks on enemy nations of Marley such as the capital city of an enemy nation or multiple devastating Titan rampages all across Paradis through Titanizing the population of Ragako, seeing thousands of innocents killed all across as a result.
- Kills Mike Zacharias' horse before feeding Mike himself to the Titans, leading to him gruesomely killed.
- He wipes out nearly the entire Survey Corps, all the while treating it like a game.
- Alongside Eren, he organizes the devastating Raid of Liberio that sees multiple innocent civilians and soldiers killed.
- His final goal is to claim the Founding Titan's power so he can use it to alter the biology of all Eldians and make them unable to reproduce so his race can die out.
- When Colt Grice begs Zeke to not use his scream yet due to his young brother, Falco, being infected with his spinal fluid, Zeke coldly ignores his warnings to turn everyone present into a Titan anyway, which ends with Colt being burnt to death by Falco's transformation.
